lisqr Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I'm thinking of doing an embassy in Avolonia's mystic forest. No matter how sacred it is, we'll find a way inside.
Dr.Cogg Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 make sure to destroy the forest around the embassy for Nocturnus .

Dr Rod Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Can I join? Go for it Zilcho, get your avatar and troops up. DrRod we don't talk very much in this guild. What do you want to talk about? how we don't talk ? Dr Rod has some stuff coming, been on a bit of a sorting mission, of sorts... ;) Things I have planned for the near future: Mitgardian Embassy. Trading scene outside my watchtower. A peek inside Dr Rod's sanctuary... DrRod
Zilcho Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) I, lord Ezcob, pledge my allegiance to the Guild of Nocturnus. How do I re-size my images? Sorry for the quality of the photos, I am working with my Ipod. On the weekend I will get my mocs and interesting new siege equipment on using a flash camera and proper set up. Angeli Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 ...damn. Why 48x48, (chalange 2)? Why not 56x56 or 64x64 or 72x72 now, with such a small baseplate, I have to choose, will I build building, or surroundings.... Why that rule, "it can not be bigger then..."?
Maxim I Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 ...damn. Why 48x48, (chalange 2)? To avoid some people building whole cities in another guild I think

The idea is that templates will gradually get bigger as these challenges move along. A lot of people don't have a huge collection, so we're focusing on quality vs. size. Not to worry though, towards the final challenges I'm sure the allowance will be big enough accommodate your large-scale work.

Not to worry though, towards the final challenges I'm sure the allowance will be big enough accommodate your large-scale work. I hate quoting like this, but: "A lot of people don't have a huge collection" - so? There is no rule that says "it must not be smaller then 32x32" - people with small collection can build small, there is no rule prohibiting that. But then why limit others? With this logic, because there are some people than can not walk, others should not run? (with respect to people with this disability). There is no moral and/or logical reason for "36x36" type of rule - it is just something that is taken for granted because of the contests from the past - but now is so much easier to get a lot of lego bricks, so the rules must be changed - and it is happening all over the world, or else policemen in London would still have a whistle instead of WiFi :) "so we're focusing on quality vs. size" - I know you did not mean it like it sounded, seeming that size excludes quality and vice versa ;) It is in the nature of the Drow to go against the flow of the surfacers ;) WE DEMAND that the rules for these challenges be changed to baseplates max 49x49 studs! Actually... it does not mater, we will rule the world of Historia in a few months, so we will impose our own rules. "All building min 51% in red" "All funny, smiling or happy houses pays taxes in trans plates" "all altars and evil-doers-castles are granted tax-free pass" "all challenges on 1024x1024 min baseplates" "all towers MUST be min 150 bricks high" "every third child must be named Veldrin" "every house must have a spider pattern" and other basic things that make life prettier ;) Drow rule supreme! :)
omegabob Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 So did the Nocturnus Guild thread get unpinned because we are so small? lol I'm sure it was just an accident or system glitch but kind of funny that it happened to the smallest guild.

So that big earthquake I felt was all of Nocturnus becoming unpinned from the rest of Historica and set adrift in the vast Forum Sea?
omegabob Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 So that big earthquake I felt was all of Nocturnus becoming unpinned from the rest of Historica and set adrift in the vast Forum Sea? It would seems so. Maybe we don't have enough post to warrant a pinning. Or have we been conquered and I just missed it due to my lack of a finished watchtower?
Zilcho Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Why are we so unloved? I thought people liked being the baddies, I do.
Quichybo Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) I am sure this was an accident, after all we are still a guild of Historica. But on the other hand maybe we will have to rise from the dead, so we would know how those undead creatures feel when being summoned by a necromancer. "To control the unlife you must BE the unlife" is also the motto of Order of Arachna. So this may be just a lesson we have to learn. And after that lesson we will be better. But anyway... to get a discussion started: What are the motives and reasons for the nocturnian nature? Are we just "evil"? I think it would be too easy if we said "We are evil and want to destroy everything! Loot, pillage, burn!". If I understood Angeli correctly, the Drow are driven by their hatred on other races. Why do they hate other races? Do Nocturnians hate other races / people from other regions too? Are they driven by gods or demons? Or (like many politicians in the real world) don't they just look far enough to recognise that their behavior leads to their own death and decay if you kill, make slaves and exploit nature? Is it their goal to destroy or to gain power and rule? What would they do if they ruled everything? Would they just like to make sure that no one opposes them? Do they really "like" the eastern darklands? Do they want to conquer the other lands to make them look like the eastern darklands (i. e. swampy, barren, volcanic...)? Or are they just mad because of the sulfuric atmosphere and noxious fumes? I for my part can say that the Order of Arachna worships Kerakatha, Queen of the Restless Dead. And Kerakatha demands sacrifices. The first sacrifice of a member is to poison himself / herself so he / she will be at the point of death itself. For that sacrifice Kerakatha grants that member the power to perform necromancy. And she grasps at a part of that member's soul. But this is another story. Further the Order wants to discover how to control the power of their artifact, since this would strengthen their bond with Kerakatha. What would you say is it that your character is aiming at? Edit: *Badabing* Back online, lesson learned, necromancy mastered! Edited January 11, 2012 by Quichybo
Derfel Cadarn Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Sorry, the un-pinning of Nocturnus was my fault, I was using an IPhone at the time and clicked the wrong thing, bloody touch screens!!! Anyway, Nocturnus isn't un-loved, I just think that out of all the guilds, it's the one that hasn't been really flushed out yet. There seems to be this feeling that Nocturnus are the bad guys, but this doesnt have to be so. I see your land as a gloomy, haunted and mysterious place, which has lots of great possibilities for mocs. I know if I was in Nocturnus I would be building something with a similar look to the Sleepy Hollow movie, dark gloomy woods with witches caves, old spooky villages and haunted towers. I think you should all have more of an open mind when building your land. Don't feel you have to have everything looking black and evil with lots fire! Build in your forests, swamps, and villages just like the other guilds, just remember to give it that subtle dark and earie haunted feel to make them stand out as Nocturnus mocs. Like I said, the Sleepy Hollow type feel would suit your guild well, but that's just my suggestion. Once you find and settle on a style then your guild will really start taking off. Keep up the good work and just try to flush out your land more, start building some civilian scenes and your land will start coming to life.

There is going to be an advantage for people with larger collections for any build, since they have more pieces to use in different ways, and they can choose to use all one color, or make big mountains. I think that the watchtower challenge demonstrated how people could take advantage of their larger collections to make large MOCs on a 32x32. Your tower was a perfect example of this. I feel that the 48x48 is very large for a challenge that is not a castle, or estate or larger collection of buildings or lands. If you just let people build whatever size they want, you will have people like Derfel or yourself, who can make enormous MOCs that knock out the small MOCs without a fight. The smaller MOCs have to be amazing to rival the large MOCs, and it can become a quantity vs. quality issue. I often see larger MOCs that are lower quality, but look more impressive due to sheer size. I think that the fact that there is no height restrictions opens up the potential for very large builds. You can always build up or down. From my own standpoint, I would never be able to get my builds done if there was no size limit. I have probably spent 40 - 50 hours on my embassy at 48 x 48, and I'm probably a bit over halfway through. It sounds like there will be larger challenges later on, but I feel that it is better to have some small challenges and some large challenges.
omegabob Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 But anyway... to get a discussion started: What are the motives and reasons for the nocturnian nature? Are we just "evil"? Or are they just mad because of the sulfuric atmosphere? Warlord Elric Wayne is not so much evil as he is greedy for power and evil being like The Five and the First One are willing to exploit that. He moved to Eastern Darklands because those that promised him power told him to go there and rewarded his loyalty with skeleton warriors to increase his army. Ja'Khal, the necromancer that made Wayne's reinforcements, is preparing an army for The Five. The Eastern Darklands are said to be the scared ground The Five will arrive on, so Ja'Khal is rallying the forces there. Ezra the Spider Witch can control spiders of all types. The biggest and deadliest spiders can be found in the Eastern Darklands. She also believes in The Five and the First One and awaits for their return eager to serve them and have a place of importance in their plans. My modified Fright Knights and Skeleton warriors are my biggest army and their look fits in better in Nocturnus than any of the other Guilds.
Dr Rod Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Dr Rod's thoughts on Nocturnus... Dr Rod is a human alchemist who has retreated to the Rakath mountains to conduct his research more privately than would be possible in some other regions. He is not evil as such, but some other humans are keen to steal his work on the mysterious alchemical secrets of longevity and Nocturnus is a reasonably safe haven... He creates potions and elixers that are of use to his fellow nocturnians so they tolerate his presence more than your average human... Dr Rod has an army of human soldiers (they wear the dark green dragon uniform). These soldiers are loyal to DrRod for the potions they are given and are well paid. Dr Rod, has a mining partnership with dwarves (North Rakath Mining Collective - NRMC)and a trading partnership with a group of humans called the North Rakath Trading Company (NRTC). Very original names ;). The NRMC chiefly mines gold, gems and sulphur. The NRTC trades mostly with Mitgardians, but also with Avalonians and Kaliphians (by sea). The chief trading centres under Dr Rod's control are outside his mountain hideout, in the dark forests of Northern Nocturnus and within an embassy in the Mitgardian town of Hykerbia. My builds will be mostly dark and rocky as they will centre around his mountain retreat but will also include builds near the northen borders of Nocturnus where there are dark forests. The NRTC operates a trading port on the northen coast of Nocturnus near the Mitgardian border called Port Wrath. My embassy is being built in the Mitgardian town of Hykerbia. I have many builds planned related to the areas and features described above. Dr Rod has no religion as he is a scientist ;) I know if I was in Nocturnus I would be building something with a similar look to the Sleepy Hollow movie, dark gloomy woods with witches caves, old spooky villages and haunted towers. Keep up the good work and just try to flush out your land more, start building some civilian scenes and your land will start coming to life. I will be building some dark forest scenes sited in northern Nocturnus at some stage, probably not for a couple of months though... Too many other plans at the moment :) Dr Rod
