hjmediastudios Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 (edited) Recursivity Desktop by HJ Media Studios, on Flickr Just a CG picture I made. It's a minfig, playing with a minifig-minifig, who's playing with a minifig-minifig-minifig... It's minifigs all the way down. This has a suitable resolution for use as a high-quality desktop. Enjoy! Superkalle Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Cool, LEGO like a Mandelbrot set. Who would have thought Thanks for sharing! PS: Can you make a video of it....eternal zoom-in? Quote
Nachapon Bricks Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Very nice! I set it as desktop background. Quote
hjmediastudios Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Superkalle: I suppose I could, but the render time wouldn't be worth the payoff. I am very glad, however, that it's already found a loving home on someones's desktop! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 It's a bit too bright for my tastes as far as desktop backgrounds are concerned, but you did a great job on the rendering. Quote
Nachapon Bricks Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Maybe use as log on background is better. I saw an episode of sponge bob with flying dutchman have similar idea and very funny. Quote

I am very glad, however, that it's already found a loving home on someones's desktop! With a higher resolution image it would be easy to realize a little animated gif with the infinite loop. Another thing that would help is the inclusion of the whole hand of the bigger minifig in the image. The only problem is that there is much difference in size between the two minifigs, so that it is necessary to zoom a lot (probably I would have opted for a bigger "toy" minifig). But if the image is enough big, it is not a problem. Quote

Yeah, that was something like that I was thinking. Maybe a rendering at just a few "zoom levels" if necessary. I would love to put that on the frontpage. It would drive people nuts Quote
hjmediastudios Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 I guess the demand is there. I suppose I'll just have to do it. Quote

hjmediastudios Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 And here we go... The actual image I rendered was too large to upload, so I had to make do with a web-optimized version... Quote
Calabar Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Great work! What do you thik about an half-size one with more colours? And a small one (with the blank parts cropped) to use as avatar? Quote
Superkalle Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Yes - really nice... Can you make it a tiny bit smaller, just a tad - perhaps just cropping out some of the blue background to the top left. (I don't think avatar small however, since animated avatars arent allowed on EB anyway)? And perhaps with a few more steps for a smoother animation. And a little slower zooming. And just a bit smoother surfaces on the minifig Quote
hjmediastudios Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 All right. The minifig works best in the center due to the zooming, but I can easily make the whole thing slower and smaller. Quote
