I like the idea of this a lot, but have some doubts about the execution.

I'll start with the latter. The two-storey police headquarters, IMO, would look better if it were a single-storey building too, just like the others. There are issues with the scale. Some of the cars are huge, others are tiny. There obviously are differences in size between real cars, but your pickup truck is larger than some of the trucks and the sedans range in width from four to six studs wide. I think it would be a lot better if you tried to coordinate the size of them a bit better. I also think that the buildings look very small compared to the larger of the vehicles. I know pickup trucks can be large, but yours is literally the size of a house.

Now for the good. I took a road-trip through Utah, Nevada and Arizona several years ago, also driving along parts of the old route 66 out there and found the somewhat ramshackle towns I passed through fascinating and you've captured their look in your model, with the sort of buildings that I'd expect to see. I like the white one in particular, as well as the pump-jack.

Ah, but 'Ralph_S' we are talking America - home of the big wide automobile !

I actually like the bigger vehicles, my only few issues....the M should be yellow - YES, it's a Macca's right ?

Apart from that it could be on a bigger base plate so sizing that 'Raplh_S' is talking about will not be as much of an issue.

Great work 'tounge60' and Brick On Drive On......Route 66 !

Thank you for your comments ! :classic:

Regarding the scale of vehicles (pick up the notte) I did not know what to do because in order to do detailed my taste this was the smaller version!

The M can be any color it does not represent any brand ...

And the logo "Route 66" is good?

I myself prefer my cars to be smaller and I'm pretty sure that small and detailed can go together, but ultimately there is a wide range of possibilities when it comes to what constitutes minifig scale. However, I think that one rule you should try to observe, no matter what the scale is, is that the relative sizes of the different vehicles are more-or-less correct. I wrote a post about this a while ago. The pickup truck is wider than the tow truck and about twice as wide as some of the other cars, and that's really not the way things are in real life, it's something that immediately drew my attention and that at first drew my eye away from the rest. I didn't even notice there was a train on there!

It's not my intention to hijack this thread, but I made a picture of how I do things a while ago, that may be useful to you too, tongue60. It is of American vehicles.

Cheers,

I think I can see what Ralph is saying with this, but I think I can see the "look" you were trying to achieve, the large vehicles

on an itty-bitty road, at least that what your moc is saying to me, surrounded by "smaller buildings". Scale wise, I can see

because this is kinda what Minifig Scale is if you look at Legoland Town, larger-sized vehicles with small buildings.

Detail wise, it was very good. Personally, I think you should keep it the way it is, you captured a very good snap-shot of small

town Americana.

I personally love the little oil pump !!!

I think it definitly captures the small roadside towns on Route 66, after watching a road trip on tv by a scottish comedian,
