Alasdair Ryan Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) I built and fitted a crane behind the cab of my 8109 truck. Features: Legs in/out Legs up/down Slew 360 (by hand) Boom up/down Boom in/out 1 section telescopic (by hand) I know the legs are not the best and it is untidy but it does work. I had to shorten the bed a bit,but it still works and still has a winch. Video is not the best. Edited October 29, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
timslegos Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Nice mod! it greatly increases the playability of the set! Have you thought of buying editing software to produce better videos? tim Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 Have you thought of buying editing software to produce better videos? tim Thanks Tim i knew you were going to like it, i don't think i will be buying any software i would rather spend it on Lego ,i was holding and filming at the same time which helps explain the poor video. Alasdair Ryan Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) What do you use to film? I use a Sony DSC-S730 camera. And would you recommend the set? Yes it's well worth the money well designed and its cool how the bed lowers the truck when the bed is deployed, also the underlift is cool to. Edited October 29, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
allanp Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Wow, that's sweeeeeet! I like how you also managed to squash the original mechanisms to fit under the smaller bed. I don't thing you need editing software tho, maybe just a cheapo tripod, or even just a box! But the lighting is much better now Quote
bord4kop Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 (edited) Your photo 's and video are not very high quality But the MOD IS however! Very nice, good work! Edited October 31, 2011 by bord4kop Quote

Smrgol Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Having just received this set for xmas I was glad to see someone else has modified it as I intend on doing my own mods as my skills improve - managed to work out what was causing mine to shudder whilst the bed was moving back and forth and intend on studying it further to see if I can get a better understanding of its mechanisms etc. Very nice mod :-) Quote
timslegos Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I got this set for Christmas too. I was thinking about making it r/c. any thoughts Alasdair Ryan(what is your real name?)? tim Quote

basbase Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Nice mod, the set looks a lot more interesting with the added crane. As for video editing software, YouTube offers a free online editor. Also it might be an idea to make a tripod out of lego Quote
timslegos Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I have a tripod now. i cant wait to see it in action . I will try r/c ing my model when i get home tonight. tim Quote

timslegos Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 So i started to mod the set last night and i decided to keep the rear wheels locked instead of moving with the bed to make motorization easier. tim Quote
