Vindice Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Hi guys, I'm really sorry if this has been asked before but I've tried looking through some topcis and pages to find this but I can't. I really want to build a lego version of the Mallard and either Tornado or the Flying Scotsman for my little boy. He tried building one himself yesterday (He's not 5 for a few weeks yet)and although I thought he did well he was obviously disappointed with the result. I have seen some MOC's of this train and I was wondering if anyone knows if any instructions have ever been put up of how to build one. I would attempt it myself but with work at the moment I barely have time to build a new set from instructions let alone figure it out for myself. Can anyone help, please? Quote
Mr Benn Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 It's a complex build, but if you want a Flying Scotsman, your best bet is the very lovely Emerald Night - a great set for any train enthusiast (though your son will very likely need assistance to put it together) - still available from the Lego store at about £70 but nobody is sure for how much longer as it's been out a while! Snapshot Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 A simple search here turns up this thread as the second entry on the Mallard. It's not full building instructions but intended to inspire you. The Emerald Night is supposedly based on the Flying Scotsman so is a good place to start. Mine has no smoke deflectors and two tenders to make it more like the Scotsman. I'd echo Mr Benn's suggestion about buying sooner rather than later. Jonathan Quote
Vindice Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Thanks guys, both very helpful suggestions. Emerald night looks quite good value for money actually so i will take a look at that, thanks. Quote
Rijkvv Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Here are instructions of one. I've searched for the original one by Tim Gould, but didn't found instructions or a MPD file. Quote
gambort Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) Here are instructions of one. I've searched for the original one by Tim Gould, but didn't found instructions or a MPD file. David tweaked the instructions quite a bit to make it buildable so these are the 'official' instructions for it. My original MPD had many mistakes. Tim Edited November 1, 2011 by gambort Quote
