I'm looking for info on some technic designer history ie who created all those epic great sets in the 90s for example who designed 8455/8466/8868 and so on!

Are these guys still working for lego or are they retired etc.who was the best designer of all time in Lego on flagships and other great sets!

Any info would be great.

I remember reading an interview with the designer of the space shuttle (can't remember his name) in the technic club magazine from 1996 (still searching for scans/copies). I don't remember much, just that there were a silly amount of prototypes built and that the design process for it took about two years I think. I also remember him saying that he had worked on a 5 speed gear box. So I guess he was part of a team already working on the 8448 3 years before it's release. They must have been given more time to design the sets back then.

Thanks Allen, anyone else have any info on this, maybe blackbird ?

I once contacted LEGO to see if I could obtain this kind of information as an addition to Technicopedia. I was told that it was not LEGO policy to give out such information. In recent years, due the LEGO Technic web site we actually know who is on the Technic design team and often know who designed specific models, but this information was not available in the past and it does not appear that LEGO has any intention of releasing such information. There may be some cases in which there is an interview or magazine article which will give you design info on a specific model, but in general it seems that this will remain a mystery of history.
