Anio Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Hi guys, I need to paint some parts that have never been produced by Lego in the right color. The color I need is dark red. Has anyone ever paint parts in that color ? If yes, what is the ref the spray you used ? Thanks a lot for your help ! Quote
Darth Yogi Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I'm pretty sure KielDaMan did in one of his MOCs so if he doesn't find this topic maybe you can message him. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Sorry Anio, I can't help and I'm positive that if you definitely want to go down the spraying route, KDM is the man to ask. BUT, I recently read here about vinyl dye and I'm considering trying this myself, sounds like in some respects it could be better than paint as it actually soaks into the plastic . Might mean a bit of experimentation to find the colour you need though. Quote
Omicron Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Krylon Fusion comes in dark red, and it is a decent match in color. -Omi Quote
Anio Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Thanks for the replies. ;) I PM KDM Yesterday. :) Krylon Fusion comes in dark red, and it is a decent match in color. -Omi I browsed their website. You had the cherry red in mind ? http://www.krylon.com/color/families/index.jsp Quote

XimenaPaulina Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I guess I'm the 'unofficial' resident resource person for spray-painting here eh? Well, yeah I've tried to use a dark red spray paint before, specifically in Ahsoka's JSF where I custom painted the 4x1 slopes which are unavailable in dark red. I don't remember the exact brand of the spray paint I used, because I use a lot of brands (probably Bosny or Tamiya). The advice I always give is when you buy at the store be sure to bring a reference LEGO piece sample so you could compare the color side by side with the color chart/swatch. But expect that you cannot get the exact color match, and as you can see in the picture there is an observable difference between the standard and spray painted dark red. Quote
