Snark Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 So I bought a bunch of series 5 blind bags today, and got myself a gangster minifig. Not to put too fine a point on it, but this guy is amazing. I love his hat, his pinstripe suit and his violin case. Seriously, everything about him screams kid friendly noir, and its amazing. So I was wondering, have Lego ever released similar themed sets? Sorry if the answer should be obvious, I've only recently gotten back into construction set toys after many, many years. Quote

No, that would be a hard theme for them to justify, since it would be centered around violence and alcohol and crime. Oddly, they can do themes that include all of those, but it's still too obvious. Still, Shanghai Chase is close and would be a good set to consider if you're looking to expand on that theme. Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 There is that Mini-fig with the musical instrument case (i assume guitar?) and pistol in the latest series. As far as I know he is the only gangster related release. However as they have released him with the obvious theme of violence, alcohol and crime it cannot bother them that much. Maybe there will be something in the future? Perhaps they have plans and we just don't know about it yet? Quote

There were some old pictures of an unreleased Lego Theme, set around 1920's prohibition era, somewhere here on the forums but I can't for the life of me find them. Quote

Lego_Hero Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 That's the picture that came to mind when I read the title, too. Lego's not going to build a theme around gang violence, no matter how elementary they try to make it. Now a theme based on eras would be possible; the 1920's theme: similar to the IJ set, complete with cars, dames, and pinstripes! Quote
