slovakiasteph Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 I was up for a challenge so decided to enter Classic Castle's mini castle contest. This is the first time I've ever built in microscale or built a castle, and it was fun... and quite a departure from my usual City buildings. My favorite view In this one you can see the entrance and garden with a fountain. Another view, this time with the river running past. The rather boring back, but you can see the river again. It's inspired by Slovakia's Bojnice Castle, although I departed from that on a few sides because I wanted more courtyard space. I might mod it to make it closer to the castle... that's if I want to display it, and I'm thinking I might because I've fallen in love with it. Any suggestions for further mods? Quote
gasior1 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 very nice! keep making and posting them!! Quote
andhe Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 I like the tan and sand green. And there's a clever use of parts. I would suggest that the red slopes and dark green look a bit out of place though, maybe try and keep the roofing all the same colour? Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 AWESOME mini creation 'slovakiasteph', you proving that you are not only great at classic town building but mini-scale too....might one give 'Legostein' a run for his money ! The colours are perfect and the use of those 1x1 side stud bricks for windows....a huge .....Brick On 'slovakiasteph' ! Quote

I just did the dark red roof because that's what the original castle has... not all of it built at the same time, I guess. I didn't want there to be too much sand green, either. But maybe dark blue would be a better fit all around if I wanted something different? Quote

The dark green is nice though, and overall, pretty magical build. I like it a lot. Quote
lorax Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 This is a really cute minibuild. I actually like the dark red, I think it is nice having that gateway with a different coloured roof. All the elements of the castle are really clear, even in minibuild scale and is a really good representation of the real castle. Looking at the original building, I can see why you used some dark green, it does have two different toned greens in the roof. Quote
Izzy Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 The is a really adorable build. Well done, this is a gorgeous build on it's own but I think set into a music box or a snow globe or something would really bring out the fairytale-ness of it. I too like the dark red. Or course sand red would be perfect but well... Quote

Ah I see, I hadn't looked at the original inspiration and can see why you did what you did now. I agree with ^ that sand red would be more in keeping, but I don't think those parts exist in that colour?! Quote
slovakiasteph Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Thanks a lot, everyone! I had a lot of fun with this build and am thinking I might try to build Oravsky hrad next. Or maybe Krasna Horka... that's my favorite castle I've visited. I just realized that all Slovak castles seem to be tan, not grey... I think I'm about out of tan bricks, though! Ah I see, I hadn't looked at the original inspiration and can see why you did what you did now. I agree with the sand red... don't think TLG makes it in that color, though. think my choices for cheese are limited to dark blue, although I might have some dark green? Quote
