Hey

I've never been to a LEGO event before, but this event is going to be only a subway ride away. I know there are few EB members in Japan, but I'm hoping some AFOL is around to go out for dinner at the event. I'd love to chat, even just for a few hours, with an AFOL here. Post here or PM me if you plan to go!

Erhm... that's a "no-go" for me.

I'd love to meet you for a dinner though - ever happen to swing by Europe? Preferably Denmark?

That's the darn thing about EB - we live all over the world :sceptic:

Can't wait for the teleporter to get invented.

There's so many people I'd die to meet IRL.

At least you have a LEGO Event you can go to alone. We don't even have that... :sadnew:

Well. I'm from Kyoto. And I plan to go if I have enough money...it'll be my first event too!

Do you think accomodations and transportations prices to Hokkaido will go up during the winter season?

Actually, it should be cheaper. There is a price bump at Oshogatsu, but this is after that, so it should be a good price. You may be able to find business hotels at ¥5000 a night if you book early. My wife is pretty strict about a two month in advance booking rule to get discount rates, so get on it

Thanks for the info! I just looked into it and find out that it even goes as cheap as 4500 Yen! *oh2*

Just need to contact my travel agent friend to check the transportation prices. Plane or Shinkansen....

Now that I'm 80% going, really looking forward to it!

Anyway, are you participating in the Building event too? It's sometime this month...

Well, there's no shinkansen to Hokkaido, so plane would be best. Maybe out of Osaka.

I haven't looked into the building event, but maybe I should... I'm not a great builder though, just the odd moc, and even those were clunky. Depends what they need. I'll ask the missus to take a look, that site is gaudy!

Anyway, I've only been in Sapporo for a few months, but I know the geography fairly well. If you have any questions about locations, let me know :sweet:

Plane is WAY expensive than I imagine it would be!! How come going to Korea is cheaper?! Strange Japanese flight system...

Anyway, a friend may be able to take me to Yamagata. And then I plan to go by train all the way to Sapporo with the 'Seishun 18 Kippu'.

Even though there's no Shinkansen, regular train from Honshu is available, right?

There's no bridge though. It's on an island. There should be decent rates on Skymark between Tokyo and Sapporo/Chitose. I'm assuming you were looking at a flight to Chitose? That's the city next to Sapporo which has the bulk of the flights. I would imagine you could get round trip for ¥30,000.

(looking on Skymark's site, they have one-way tickets as cheap as ¥7,800! Keep looking!)

First of all, Happy New Year, Def!

Thanks for all the info! I managed to get a 4-day-off of my choice this month by working like crazy during Christmas and New Year!

And, I checked the Skymark sites, you ARE right! And I can get 3 days in the hotels for as cheap as 6000 Yen!

So unless some other thing came up (Meaning better ways to spend a birthday than going to a Lego event in Hokkaido), I guess all is going fine, and all I have to do is book all of those.

My plan is to go on the 13th, go to the event, and have some drinks/walk around the city after that.

So, when are you going? If you're going earlier (Since it started today), can you check and see if the event is worth the trip?

Thanks for everything,

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Well, I think I'll be going tomorrow, but we haven't decided yet. But, if you come next week, I can meet you at some point and show you some hospitality :sweet:

I enjoyed it. Whether it's worth a flight depends on how much you like the MOCs. There was a lot for sale, and I wouldn't be surprised if the selection is different by next weekend. Not a pile of sales, but some good deals were there. A few Harry Potter sets, lots of Toy Story, some Kingdoms, and 2010 Star Wars sets were about 10-20% less than Amazon. All sales were through Click Brick (the Japanese LEGO store). They also have a 600 yen lottery, where at worst you get a prize that cost at least that much (I got a Sensei Wu minifig that I'd been wanting) and at best, a 10,000 yen plus set. We played a few rounds, and I got a 2,000 yen Cars set for my daughter.

It's not an exceptional deal, but it was a nice afternoon :sweet:

Thanks for all the pics, def!

I don't think I'll go this time, though...

The MOCs are nice, and that white city is as great as I imagined it. But...,I was hoping for a bigger event if I'm gonna use the plane and all. (Although I never been to a LEGO event, I was expecting TGS or Comicket size scale of an event)

Again, thanks for all the infos so far, though! LEGO event or not, if I ever go there or you here, we should get together for lunch or something.

For now, see you in the forums...

Cheers, no worries :sweet: I don't know what it would take to get me to fly and pay for hotel for a LEGO event, but it's probably not this. I enjoyed it lots, but there was nothing exceptional, particularly socially or in terms of LEGO deals. I was lucky enough to be living a half hour north of the place

Maybe I'll meet you when LEGOLand Nagoya opens a few years from now
