im not really down with technic as im mainly into town , creator and modulars etc . I was wondering what the most basic , smallest form of a steering mechanism is that could be made and used with pf and remote control . thank you for your time

I think sterring from this would be good for you. It has Return-To-Center and is small enough.

If you don't yet know about Bricklink , you can easily get all of the needed parts. Use the "Catalog" feature to search for the various "Technic"-type parts.
