Runamuck Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 I’m not quite sure what section this would be best suited it, but I’ll put it here for now. Alright yo cool cats listen up, my bro and I have been building a few cars based on an old video game called Interstate ‘76 about combat between some smooth rides with some added firepower. The Game is set in 1976…a different 1976… The Picard Piranha (Plymouth Barracuda) That’s a .30 cal machinegun, not a tailpipe by the way. Grove Champion’s ride of choice. The Jefferson Sovereign (Lincoln Continental) A.K.A. Eloise Taurus’ beloved ride. The Dover Street Van GrooVan (Dodge Street Van) Skeeter’s ride and mobile mechanic shop. Group shot of the Auto Vigilante Guild. Skeeter doesn’t have a special face because of the cut scene graphics, stylish as they may be; don’t really give him any distinguishable facial features. My brother and I will probably make some more cars and characters later. Tips for improvement are welcome. Quote
Yucca Patrol Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Ha Ha Ha! I remember this old video game. Although it probably would look silly today, I think it was quite advanced for its time. It has to have been almost 15 years since I played it! You definitely captured the look and feel of the game with your cars and the minifigs are awesome too! I doubt many people will "get it" since a reference to this game might be somewhat obscure today, but you nailed it! Quote
Runamuck Posted October 9, 2011 Author Posted October 9, 2011 Thanks. Yes, it’s not exactly a game that was released recently; the game is from 1997 after all. My brother and I are interested in retro gaming, and this is certainly a gem among the games we have found. Maybe some information will help people to understand the game a bit better http://interstate76.wikia.com/wiki/Interstate_'76 a wiki about the original game, not too much info about the expansion pack though. Also a trailer for the game: Then again, you don’t need to have played the game to like muscle cars. Quote
Seluryar Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) I love this thread, I played some I76, but was more into I82 for its online multiplayer Edited October 9, 2011 by Seluryar Quote
Runamuck Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 I have gotten around to building a few cars for the Auto Mercenaries. Phaedra Palomino (Ford Mustang) This is the ride of the shrill second in command of the Voodoo Riders, Disco Cat. ABX AMZ (AMC Javelin AMX) I don’t think that it will surprise anyone that the driver of this car calls himself Patriot. Dover Rampage (Dodge Challenger) This one is supposed to resemble one of the cars in the intro for Nitro Riders. Note the mortar launcher on the roof. ABX Leprechaun (AMC Gremlin) Cannon fodder. I must say, it is a bit difficult to make cars like the Piranha, Palomino and Rampage look different from each other, they are rather similar in general shape after all. I don’t have Interstate 82, but I played a demo of the game when I was a kid and it got me interested in the series. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I've never heard about this game, but the first orange car is very nice! I like the three guys! Quote
Runamuck Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Thanks for the comments. I’m very happy with how the Piranha turned out. I have also gotten around to building a few more vehicles and characters. Jade Champion, older sister of Grove Champion, and former owner of the Piranha. Antonio Malochio, leader of the auto mercenaries in the original game and also Jade’s killer. Phaedra Coupe (Ford Coupe model B) Vehicle of choice for Oktoberfest, member of Auto Villains for a Meatless America. Courcheval Hacienda (Chevrolet El Camino) Driven by the rather far out auto villain Whirlwind, man. Phaedra Pony (Ford Pinto) This is the ride of the auto vigilante Inferno. Quote
mattb483 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Sweet I -76 cars. I loved that game and still have it. I hope you plan on making some more cars from the game as well. Great job! Quote
Runamuck Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 I know it has been a while since I last posted some new vehicles, but people would like to see more, and I also wanted to build more. Courcheval Royale (Chevrolet Caprice) The Fuzz. Sadly your enemy in the game. Your very heavily armed enemy. Warendorf FV (Wolksvagen beetle) I think I’ll just let Drinky speak for himself: "You can't kill me. I'm Drinky, the stunt driving clown!" He is certainly one of the more harmless autovillains. Quote
Andy D Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I never heard of the game, but I remember most of the actual cars on the road and you captured the spirit of those cars. I got a particular chuckle out of the AMC, the Gremlin and Pinto. The mustang and Challenger were also very nice as is the '32 Ford coupe. Keep on Brickn' Andy D Quote
Yoshi648 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) Oh sweet, another fan of Interstate '76! Great models! Very nice detailing on the cars and I love the custom figs. I actually started working on a larger scale version of the Piranha almost two years ago but never got around to finishing it. I look forward to seeing more of your vehicles. I'd love to see them all together in some large battle or something. And for anyone interested, I have all of the cut-scenes from the game for those of you who want to "relive" the game (or see it for the first time). Also by any chance have you played the spin-off series Vigilante 8? Edited November 14, 2011 by Yoshi648 Quote
Runamuck Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 I think I ran across that Piranha when I was searching Brickshelf if anyone else had tried to build something from Interstate 76. It looks really good. A battle scene? That sounds like an interesting idea, but it would require a lot of space to pull it off. I’ll see what I can do about it. I haven’t played Vigilante 8, but it would be on the to-do-list if I ran across the game. I have built a few more vehicles: Dover Lightning (Dodge Charger) Crimson, autovillain witch with a capital B. Moth Truck (Mack Truck) Cloaker, Malochios second in command. Ransom Marshall (Pontiac GTO) Ach, Raidatormother would have been here a lot sooner if it hadn’t been for Tarus‘ terrible instructions and that eedjet Notorious Bob stealing his bloody car. Leopard XLC (Jaguar E type) The ride suggested for Natty Dread, the leader of the autovillain group the Voodoo Riders. These vehicles might be the last I’ll build from Interstate 76 for a while; I’m simply running out of pieces. I’m running out of windscreens, axels and weapons. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Great set of new models 'Runamuck'. Big thumbs up to the Jag, Challenger, Police car, Camino, and the orange car! Too bad you have to take a break from building more. How many vehicles left in the game? Quote
