Tank track issues

So as you may or may not seen, I build a huge robot called george (I am honestly not promoting it)

The tracks layout is pretty big. I am using 2 xl motors per side, driving the large sprockets with the weight of the robot being on 8 sprockets (4 per track) per side (so in total 16 touching the ground).

Yesterday I tried to improve this running by using little sprockets for the the track that touches the floor as I thought little sprockets would turn easier. Did not work so well. I then tried using more sprockets to distribute the weight better, again, did not seem to work as I thought it would

Then I used old technic wheels with no tyres where the inner track but fitted inside the rim, this I thought would make it go a lot better, but nope

So, my question is, when building large tracked vehicles, should you use large or small sprockets, many or few (weight distribution), or not even use sprockets but wheels?

You are talking about treads, not "tracks" (which trains run on). You can get some design ideas from this "giant tracked vehicle" discussed on this Eurobricks post:
