George G. Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Elizabethan Terrace For Round 2 of the MOColympics over at MOCpages I had to build a house. I was stumped at what to build because it was such an open category. After a day of thinking I settled on a house with black beams and white stucco like one from the Tudor/Elizabethan period. And here's the result: I spent the majority of the time working on the front of the house, trying to get the right look for the beams. I realised that I'd have to use SNOT as it would have meant the horizontal beams would be 1 plate thick and the vertical beams would be 1 stud thick, where as I wanted them both to be 1 plate thick. On the front, I made it difficult for myself and made the steps up to the front door 3 studs wide As my entry had to have play features, I made it like a dolls house, with accessability to all the rooms: All of the pictures can be found on my Flikr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brickpix/ And I think the judges liked it, as it secured me a place in Round 3! Sandy Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Great job! I really like the ingenious idea of only having the facade wall while the three other outer walls are "invisible". It's an entirely different approach to the dollhouse concept. The only things that make me dubious are the windows in some of the inner walls. I know it's not unheard of, but I don't see their point. Horry Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 (edited) The only things that make me dubious are the windows in some of the inner walls. I know it's not unheard of, but I don't see their point. From older German houses I know them as "Durchreiche". They where used to transport food and other stuff unobtrusivly from the kitchen to the dining room and back and to make whatever service stuff would become necessary invisible to guests and/or the houselords. It would be something akin to backstairs. Seems that they are called service hatch in English! Great house! my favourite part is the kitchen but you pay great attention to details, I like that! streifen Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 ur Tudor house is really !! the opened sides has really increased the playability! are the different floors "openable" from the top? Quote
George G. Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 ur Tudor house is really !! the opened sides has really increased the playability! are the different floors "openable" from the top? I was planning on making it modular, but I only had 10 days to build this so didn't have enough time to hunt for all my brown tiles Quote
