punkkid364 Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 It seems to me that the new bow piece is totally insufficient for the actual shape of a stern. Since the old stern piece won't be available in new/current colors (reddish brown, dark brown, black) what ideas or solutions have you guys come up with for a stern that has the right look? Pics would be appreciated! Quote
Skipper Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 (edited) Personally I don't think it's that bad. However I understand the criticism, the slope should be much more gradual. If you use prefabs for the prow and middle section, an entirely brickbuilt solution to the back would look incongruous. The following are a few solutions I've noticed. Pics are links to their threads. Spanish Sloop of War by Sebeus Iniwum: As the new hulls come in two parts Sebeus has only used the bottom. This is good for small ships, and with the prefabs here really only forming the base the strange shape isn't noticable. What about larger ships? Spanish Imperial Galleon by Bonaparte and CGH: Here we have again the top part of the hull removed and instead brickbuilt, which solves the problem. Hope that helps. I'm building a ship (link in my sig) right now on the new prefabs, and it honestly doesn't bother me much. Edited October 4, 2011 by Skipper Quote
Dreamweb Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Alternatively, you might skip the stern hull section completely and build your stern on the last middle section. The new 4184 Black Pearl will use that solution (see here). I know some people complain it's too low, but I see no problem with building it higher. it honestly doesn't bother me much. It's fine with me too! Quote
kurigan Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I would submit that a brick built hull may better suit you project. By building the ship keel up, stem to stern, you can create very different shapes, from those that prefab hull pieces bind you to. For instance I offer, just about any, of my LDD ships. I suggest starting at the end, with the newest designs. You can also see something of a “proof of concept” in my real world models. Quote

That black pearl is missing the stern piece? When you buy this ship you actually buy a In-complete ship... too bad you will have only front piece in black then.. Greetz Bjornu Quote
