Nice work! I don't know how high do you intend the ship to be, but it will be blocky if you build all the walls perpendicular to the decks, so perhaps you should consider using slopes or other techniques.

It is starting to have shape, so keep working! pirate_blush.gif

Hello Hobbes5a, nice MOC already. A little more curves and perhaps a tumblehome would look good as well though.

What advice exactly do you need on the gundeck? I think you can easily fill front and rear with 1x..brown plates.

And another more important thing, in the future, please always capitalize when you start a new sentence.

And also please don't use chat language like plz and thx. Thank you :pir-classic:

Great work! Which version of LDD are you using? If it is the last how did you manage to have the ship hull? Universe mode?

I just download a ship model from the LDD index in the LDD forum and copy the hull :pir-laugh::pir-laugh:

Nice update! I like the curvature you added.

The only comment I have is on the amount of guns you have. The Constitution was rated as a 44-gun frigate, and normally carried a total of 30 guns on the gun deck (15 per side) plus 20 carronades on the spar deck. Yours only has 22 on the gun deck. I was just wondering if you are going to make it accurate with real ship.

Anyways, good luck with the rest of the design!

Thanks for your kind remind. :pir_laugh2: I know that the constitution has 30 on the gun deck, however, after fitting the guns, I started to realise that there is way too little room for all thirty guns and demolishing the whole thing and adding in to two additional hull is too time consuming for me. So, I'd rather use the Consttution as a guild now more than a real MOC here.

Thanks again and hoping for more future advices:pir-cry_happy:

Looking good, she's progressing nicely! I like the choice of ship, I've always thought the United States frigates to be beautiful ships (and I live close to this one!). I like the tumblehome technique and the storage hold looks slick.

Now for the advice. I do think it's worth the time to add more hull sections, one of the (few :pir-tongue: ) benefits about working in LDD is that you don't have to wait for parts or anything - just select and drag. You could probably do it in a couple minutes. I would also suggest adding a curve along the gundeck as Admiral Croissant suggested and changing the cannon ports to black.

Keep it  !

you'r probably right.Guess I'd better make the modyfication now.

Thanks.

I had the opportuunity to tour this fantasic historic ship this summer and would love to see a very accurate model in LEGO. From my recollection of the ship's gun deck, there are at least 2 cannon lengths in the middle of the ship, but your model has the cannons almost touching. I know you said you are not making it exact, but since you are doing LDD, you might as well put your energy into making it as close as possible.

I'm getting a bit jealous about your visit. :pir-tongue:

Regarding the two cannon's length, I would like to make that happen too. However, LEGO's hull was in fact a bit too squeeze for that much space so I am already trying all my best to make the hull as wide as possible.

I would appreciate if you could advice me on sticking to the original as I've never visited it before.

Thanks :pir-cry_happy:

I didn't realize there were specific LEGO hull sections that limit the width of the ship. One thing that I noticed while touring the ship was that this ship had ZERO creature comforts and was built as a warship only. Even the nice wood paneled officer's area was quite spartan.

I actually got a tear in my eye as the sailor giving the tour told the story of how it came to be called "Old Ironsides" in the battle against the HMS Guerriere. That captain was so incredibly gutsy when he waited until he was right alongside his opponent to begin firing.

Definitely make sure to add the ship's bell as they rang in several times to mark the time during my visit and that was a very memorable detail.

You’re having the same trouble everyone is “pinking on” Corweena for. The stern gallery shouldn’t be any wider, in fact narrower, than the widest part of the hull. Your hull has no change, as it’s the same with stem to stern. You’ve also suggested with those triangle plates, that you intend to make it way to deep. The stern gallery does not cover the whole of the cabin, as is often the misconception, but only the rear most potion. Your hull is also overall way too narrow. For one you seem to be using, nominally, the CGH method which typically calls for a widening of the hull pieces with inverted roof tiles. Also to be considered, most carriage mounted guns will recoil their own length and more (farther the bigger the gun) with each shot. Your cannons are 6 studs long and only have 4 between them. It makes it look awkward and would be impossible for your crew to actually work the artillery. It’s strange that at least 3 similar such projects are going on at the same time on this forum, yet there seems to be little communication between their creators.

Check out Corweena’s Titan Initiative and the link Perfectionist offered for reference on hull shape, the model pictured is actually Constitution.

Check out Skipper’s HMS Reliant who offered his LFX file for consideration. You can see how he used the roof tiles to make the hull wider so his guns and crew have space below deck.

I also always suggest brick building your hull, as you can make a more dynamic shape and in a digital environment, especially, there’s nothing to hold back your ambitions. If you like, check out my work, no need to link it’s all linked in my signature. Good luck moving forward and thanks for sharing.

As far as I'm aware the stern gallery and gundeck should always at the same level, so if you're trying to emulate the original it should probably be lowered.

The gallery shaping looks pretty good though, certainly better than I achieved on my frigate.

Keep it up!

Actually I have been trying to achieve that too but there is some technicle issues that I am trying my best to solve...
