Thanks for the advise, Sebeus, and in fact my prow is a little too short, though I don't think it should be wider than the middle. In the link I also posted one top view for comparing purposes. The gundeck is finished, though the prow still needs lots of work. Thanks for feedback!

Overall, she looks good. I have a few suggestions.

I don't know if you're building a "waterline" model or the entire hull, but either way I think she looks too tall.

Also for a merchant ship like this the curves should be really distended, both vertically and sideways.

Finally I'm not so sure about your technique for curving the ship outwards, if you're set on it I think you should at least tile it.

Just suggestions, keep it up! We need more VOC on these forums.

But if you're trying to build the 'real' Batavia, I think you should give it much more of a curved shape.

And I'm also not sure about the white line. In the Batavia period, blue, red, green and yellow were much more common.

I white hull would look quite good though.

But if you're not building the Batavia from 1628, you can forget about most of these issues

Well, the problem of tiling it is: number of parts I don't want the ship to be extremely expensive, and with a tiled hull this new design would be useless… I know it is quite tall, but it is precisely because I am building the entire hull. This is quite unusual but I intend to place the ship in water, so only the waterline part will be seen I have no idea how this new design will turn out in real bricks, so let's try!

White hulls were my first thought. The point is that there are no pre-fabs in white As the top line is green (in the real ship), it would be nice if this one was also… Another problem concerning parts: hinge bricks in green are extremely rare… For colour coherence both the top and the line formed by hinge bricks should be in the same colour. Green is completely out of question, so I probably will have to make the top in yellow or blue. What do you think: blue or yellow? (prices are about the same)

I would try it in blue. I've seen it in blue on a model ship, not in yellow although that could perhaps also be possible.

I have visited the Batavia a few times and I can't wait to see you build it out of lego bricks.
