CP5670 Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Has anyone else been playing this game? I spent the last two weeks with it and it's certainly the best game I have played in quite some time, even though I have long been a fan of the Deus Ex series and had high expectations. The story and atmosphere are very nicely fleshed out and there are several different ways to play the game and approach various situations, just like the original Deus Ex. I especially like how HR encourages you to explore the maps freely, since they have lots of little things to find and aren't laid out in quite as linear a fashion as most modern FPSs. HR does have its flaws and the last 20% of the game's plot is surprisingly lacking, but my overall impression was still very good. Now I need to figure out how to build an Adam Jensen similar to this. Quote
simonjedi Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 (edited) I never got past the first level of Deus Ex 1. That game had the worst opening first level. (I might still have it somewhere, i might reinstall and give it another go.) I'm not that far into HR (I'm still in detroit, just faffing around) It took me a while to get used to the control sceme and everything but I am enjoying it. Hacking is awful though. CP5670 Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 The hacking minigame is not that bad in itself, but you have to do it constantly and it does get repetitive, especially if you want to maximize XP and see all the emails. I thought it was at least better than what other games like Bioshock or Mass Effect do for this though. Out of curiosity, how come you didn't like the first map in Deus Ex? Most people consider it to be a great introduction that showcases the game's "play it the way you want" philosophy. Quote

Most people consider it to be a great introduction that showcases the game's "play it the way you want" philosophy. It's too open, too slow/clunky and you're horribly underpowered for a tutorial level. I mean you're dumped in with no Augs (or really bad ones if you don't pick them), awful weapons and just said go and do it without any real explanation. Quote
Nightshroud99 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 I have this game and love it. It's really a lot of fun, except for the boss fights though... Quote
simonjedi Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Brought the 2 originals from steam. NOPE still hate it. Quote
iamded Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'm gonna drop in and say this game is awesome. I'm on holiday so have been playing a LOT of this. A lot of my time in the first area (Detroit) was spent running back and forth between bad guys and the shop where you can sell the bad guys' loot, and a lot of time in the second area (Heng Sha) was spent using my new found augs to sprint about the place and jump onto rooftops. My two main problems with this game are A) the painfully slow load times for PC and B) the lack of New Game+. But those are minor gripes really. The game is mighty fun, and I really am enjoying it.
