Being the FOL that I am, I'm always on the lookout for new LEGO X-wings in the community. So I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had missed something posted earlier this week on Flickr:

From the looks of his photostream, '✠.Andreas.✠' builds mostly military/sci-fi/mecha MOCs, so it's no wonder I've never heard of him... he may even be a member here, I don't know.

Moving on to the MOC - there is less of a focus on accuracy and more on SNOT and greebling, which is understandable, since he doesn't seem to build much Star Wars. Those 'split-cylinder' engines are nice - they're very clean, and make good use of that curved piece (a truck fender or something, right?)

Also, take a look at those SNOT wings... look familiar, don't they?

I wouldn't say it's 'lovely' or 'one of the best', but I do agree that the bulky approach, while not entirely fitting of the X-wing, is quite interesting (and in any case, those who wish to see a sleek X-wing need look no further than Tiao's).

Looks alright IMO and I do agree that it is a bit bulky.

I wonder if the wings can open into attack position?

By the looks of it, it doesn't :sadnew:

On his Flickr page...

Wings fold together, I used a mechanism similar to the one used on the Hips of Metal Gear Rex.

But of course I have no idea how the hips were constructed on Metal Gear Rex.

I don't like it. The bulky style reminds me of the Viper mk2. My current favorite X-Wing builds are marshal banana's and Eleven-Thirty-Eight's..

It really does have the same feel as a Viper, which means it's completely the opposite of what an X-wing is supposed to be. *huh*

I remember Eleven-Thirty-Eight's... based off Niko's. I think his is very much in the style of the famous 'old skool' X-wings (e. g. Bruce Lowell's, David Low's) - really nice. If he had found some real sources for X-wing markings instead of toys his X-wings would have been even better.

Even being the huge fan of SNOT and studlessness that I am, I don't really like this one. The shaping of the nose really throws off the look of the whole model. It's too fat and doesn't have enough slopes to prevent it from looking squarish, and unlike the squarish nose on TLG's versions (other than the '99 one), it doesn't taper.

Am I the only one liking this built? :sceptic:

Okay, it's not the best X-wing there is, but it could be way worse than this. Some nice use of SNOT, cool engines and the nose is not that bad, right?

Oh well, so much people, so much opinions.
