fr33manator Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Sorry, I can't post polls yet. I'll get there someday. So what do you begin with usually, if you do start with a certain aspect? Cockpit? Weaponry? vehicle base? just a general skeleton? Or do you just start building whatever strikes your fancy and go from there? Do you grab a bunch of pieces and then try putting them together, or do you just pick as you go? Quote
The Mugbearer Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 When I am making a Mecha, I am starting with legs and/or torso. In case of Microfig Mechs I have a torso doodle template to insert. =) When I am working with starship, I am beginning with nose and ending with engines, gear and weaponry. When I need to build vehicle, I am always thinking over the chassis. Quote
fr33manator Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 For ground vehicles, I usually fond myself starting with the wheel base. For ships, usually the cockpit. Quote
brickmack Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 For spaceships, it's usually: cockpit, engines, wings, weapons, greeblies For ground vehicles: Chassis, cockpit, weapons, troop area (if any) For mecha (I never finish any but I start on them often): cockpit, legs, arms, guns Quote
Delta62 Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Hmm, good question. Not sure really, I just start by picking random peices and work my way from there. Quote
-zenn Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I mostly make a sketch first. Than the chassis and some bulk to give a overall feel/look to it. After that more complex building/part integration. And finally the details. Quote
fr33manator Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 I usually start with an idea for an element then spend the day or night sketching ideas for it. Brainstorming. Figuring out how to articulate crucial parts. Then comes actually building it in physical form. Usually a rough skeleton, or one specific aspect. At that point it usually boils down to trial and error, and finding that piece you need and saw five minuites earlier!!! Quote
