Hrw-Amen Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Just a quick question. I have just got around, (Or got the cash together.) to order an Emerald Night. Obviously this does not come with power and so on. So, my question is:- What does everyone else do for controllers? Do you use just one and switch between channels or do you have one for each train? Is it easy to control two trains and switch channels or is it best to have a seperate controller for each? Thanks. Quote
Toastie Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 What does everyone else do for controllers? Do you use just one and switch between channels or do you have one for each train? Hi Hrw-Amen, well that depends. On the complexity of your layout, and on the total number of trains you are planning to run simultaneously. Lots of track, less chances for crashes. Many trains on the track, many potential crashes, particularly if there is confined space. I'd go with dedicated remotes, even if that seems to be expensive. The moment a fully steaming EN is approaching a waiting crags train on the same stretch of track, you may get confused ... well, my experience. All the best, Thorsten Quote
22kane Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I just use one controller for all my loco's. I find it easier than having a couple when one can run up to 8 I think. It's a very easy system, you just need to remember what channel each loco is on. Normally I only run two at a time so I just switch from the left to the right dial. Very easy. Quote
Pingles Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I find controlling two trains with one controller fun. I have done three but don't have enough track to make that anything other than a catastrophe. Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 OK, so it down to how well you can keep a watch on what each train is doing then and if you can remember what channel each is on. I can see it would lead to some good crashes if you are not careful. At the moment I don't have that much track so may stick to one each, but as it expands then maybe I'll try out two on one. I guess if they are on two seperate loops unless someone throughs the points then just one would be OK. I'll see how I get on. Quote
