doug72 Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) To fix the stiff steering replaced the red friction pins by 4Laxles with stop held in place by 2 - 1/2 collars. Whilst this made steering much lighter found that when suspension was compressed it became stiff again. Found this to be caused by the 5.5L axle with stop in the steering was bottoming out on the inside of the sliding universal coupling. i.e its a shade too long. This pushes the dark grey part of the UV against the bearing support. A 5L axle is not longer enough. The 5.5L axle with stop needs to be shortened slightly. Edited August 23, 2011 by Doug72 Quote
DrFrankenstein Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I did a similar fix to yours but with 5L and 6L axles. Also, I removed the 1/2 pins restricting the steering radius. Very happy with the overall result. Here are the parts that I removed from the model: Here are the parts that I added (notice the "custom" 5.25 axle that I produced through filing a regular 5.5 axle): Here is the comparison between my filed 5.25 axle and the original 5.5 axle: Here is what the mod looks like: Notice how the front-left axle has no bush at the top and sticks slightly on the bottom to avoid a collision with the panhard rod attachment.
