ButterMelon Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 My first set was "483 Alpha-1 Rocket Base" released in 1979. I was an avid fan of Lego all through my childhood, until my dark ages began. After about a 16 year gap I finally broke, and bought a Lego SW set. My wife has been absolutely no help in restraining my lego habit. It's her fault really. She was so relieved to find something that I liked but wouldn't buy for myself. That was about 7 years ago. Since then I've developed quite a collection of the new SW sets, retrieved my original collection from storage, and become a pretty regular user of BrickLink. And I have of course gotten over my inability to purchase Lego for myself. I think what really got me back into it was that when I left models were still mostly just a stack of plates and bricks. But during my dark ages the variety of parts really expanded, and the techniques used by Lego just exploded. I started connecting with the online comunity after a relative sent me a link to an article in Wired magazine about a contest that was hosted by FBTB. Since then I've entered a few contest there. I've been a lurker on EB for quite a while. I decided to sign up, just specifically to make this post. I would really like to find out if there are any other AFOLs in the Northeastern part of OK that would be interested in forming a local LUG. There's not really an active LUG in Oklahoma that I can find. Maybe someone else knows something that I do not. Anyway, I am seriously thinking about going to BrickFair in Birmingham Alabama in January, possibly as an exhibitor. And I think it could be a lot of fun to get together from time time with other AFOLs from the area. Maybe plan something for the Tulsa State Fair next year, and of course lobby TLG for a Lego store in Tulsa. I am mostly a SW nut, with a penchant for spacecraft that fit that theme. Here lately I've begun experimenting with Duplo combined with snot techniques, as a way to build large MOCs with smaller part counts. Quote
meschepers Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 HEY! It's great to see another Okie, let alone a fellow Tulsan on here! I hope you enjoy your time on this forum, I know I have. It's been a great source of inspiration and advice. There are a lot of helpful folks here and they are all happy to help you out with any questions. Quote
dviddy Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Hey! I also live in Tulsa. You're right in that there is no LUG in Tulsa, let alone Oklahoma. I know of few fans around the state, though there are bound to be more, considering right here we have three Tulsans, and I know of a few people in the OKC area. I'm sure we could get something going. Also, I hear Brickfair Alabama should be fun. I'm a regular attendant of Brickfair Virginia, and Todd knows what he's doing. You should go, and enjoy the convention! They are a lot of fun, and hopefully we'll hear about the possibility of another BrickFiesta in Texas next year. It's a little closer for us Oklahomans than Alabama. Quote
Soundmanred Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Another Tulsan here. I started collecting again due to my daughter loving LEGO for the past year (she's almost 5). We have a large collection already (thanks to Craigslist and grandparents!) so we mostly buy just minifigs and small sets these days. I'm too busy to be in any kind of group, and although a LEGO store nearby would be nice, driving to OKC isn't bad for a once-in-a-while trip. Just letting you know that there are Tulsans around! :) Quote
Soundmanred Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 They have Series 5 minifigures at TRU in Tulsa at 71st & Memorial. Quote
ButterMelon Posted August 27, 2011 Author Posted August 27, 2011 Soundmanred - that right there is plenty of participation for a local LUG!! If anybody is interested, the 121st & Elm Walmart in BA has Atlantis 7984 Deep See Raider on sale for $20 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7984-1 down from $29.97 - the shelf tag doesn't show that they are on sale - but they ring up %30 off. I bought 10 at 7:30am this morning. They had about 8 of them left in an odd place, still on the construction toy isle, way down at the North end - close to the board games Quote
Rook Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Heard Lego was melting down there for days this summer! If you ever need keep your bricks cold in the summer I have room up here in Canada. Welcome. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Welcome to EB, ButterMelon! SNOT and Duplo sounds interesting. Looking forward to seeing where you go with that. Enjoy the site! Quote

We are in high gear working on it and it'd be great if Oklahoma can join us. This year in Houston at the Westin Galleria, right in the mall. So good chance to make it a family vacation. Weekend of July 4th (4-8th) Here are some highlights: • Meet LEGO Senior Designer Jamie Bernard (best known for designing the modular building series). He will be hosting a presentation and a Q/A Session! • As if that was not enough, LEGO will be unveiling an exclusive set at the event. This is a must-see! • We have more than double the display space since last year. • We are a small walking distance to the LEGO Store. Lego will have a special sale event with discounts2 for full BF2012 members! • Jared Burks (fineclonier) will be at the event holding free minifigure workshops both days! In these classes attendees will receive free figures and learn the basics to customizing a LEGO minifigure. • Participate on a range of games that are sure to be a hit including the SUMOBot battles and a Heroica Tournament. • Enjoy a great rate with the Westin Galleria, so this is a great chance to have a family vacation in a first-class location. • Advance Westin Hotel registration prize drawing, ending 3/31/2012 • Advance Brick Fiesta membership prize drawing, ending 4/15/2012 Link to Membership : http://www.brickfiesta.com/2012-brick-fiesta/convention/memberships/ and Heavily discounted hotel rate: www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/booking/reservation?id=1108011214&key=DA18D We can be followed on http://Facebook.com/brickfiesta and twitter @brickfiesta Hope you can make it! CustomBricModels Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Hello, I am a fellow Tulsan. I stumbled upon this forum and thought I would join. I would love to meet any Tulsa AFOL and talk, maybe share collections or places to find great deals. I am mainly a town and modular fan. I would love to hear from any of you. Quote
Scott Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I'm also in Tulsa. Collect for myself and my three kids. Scott Quote
TimH Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Hi ButterMelon, and welcome to the Eurobricks community. Quote
extremeja Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Brand new to the AFOL world. My boys and I just built a 6x8 lego table and are setting up our larger modular buildings which we've been collecting for a year now. We also have a train track running around it all. We've watched a bunch of Alex Nunes videos on youtube and are basically modeling it after his so we can learn how to lay things out. My question is... Does anyone have a set up like this that we can come see? Quote
