BrickWild Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 A typical tower to support power lines around South Australia is known as as 'Stobie Pole' It has a transformer & a streetlight mounted on top. Here is a real one for reference. It consists of a concrete pillar sandwiched between 2 iron rails. Quote
streifen Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 almost like the real stuff! now we just need some of that "string with 2 round plates at each end" (not sure what it is actually called in LEGO terms but it was available in some sets) for the wiring between the poles! Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Great work 'BrickWild', now don't tempt the tiger into making my own for real.....oh, for those who are not South Australian....the Stobie Pole was named after it's inventor and use iron supports with concrete inners - these poles carry power, telephone and cable TV/internet feeds to homes in older parts of Adelaide and main country towns. (lucky for you I'm a history nut ) Though 'BW', the pole actually has a taper to it, larger at the base - thinner at the top. Brick On ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Oh, I found some more photos to share with you all - to prove how strong they are ? Luckily the two in that car survived.....just....remember speed and booze kills ! And there are more than one kind of Stobie Pole..... Oh, this is getting the tiger interested in building some ! LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Nice realization! I like the transformer on the top of the mast. Great project! Quote
tomdobs55 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 The way you did the streetlight is really nice. Simple, but it works really well...I may have to steal it for my MOC's overall good stuff. Quote
