DLuders Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 rogvibest7 (Rogvi Langgaard) posted a of his Lego Technic strong gearbox, which has 3 forward speeds and Reverse. He explains that "I am making a supercar, and i wanted a manual gear box that is strong...." To build your own, check out his 56-Step Building Instructions and 13 Photographs . Quote
DaddyWhale Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 This looks amazing. Are there any official sets with gear boxes anywhere close in complexity? Quote
Meatman Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Reminds me of the transmission that crowkillers did earlier in the year with the driving rings not touching directly. Of course this is completely different though. Quote
Sariel Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 The strength of this design relies on the driving rings. They can only handle limited torque, and can get disengaged or get damaged when overloaded. It's the main reason why vehicles in our Truck Trial races use linear gearboxes with no driving rings. Sokratesz Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) This looks amazing. Are there any official sets with gear boxes anywhere close in complexity? 8460 space shuttle I'm looking to build a 4-speed linear gearbox in such a way that one LA can go through all four gears sequentially. Just need to find time to build it :D Edited August 15, 2011 by Sokratesz Quote
bord4kop Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 It looks good. Sadly the LDD file is not correct. It doesnt work when you build it from the instructions. It stalls on the 24t and the three 16t gears. ;) Quote
