Sisco Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "Of course. It is always good to learn from other peoples adventures." "Alright, I'll gladly tell a tale or two," Jess replied, thinking of a story. "My brother Rolf and I set out one day for Paness City. We were going in search of Rhunön, the legendary sword maker. She had known my father, and had promised to make us some swords. We had gone a year earlier, and she finally sent word that they were finished. So we went to receive our swords." Jess fingered the hilt of her sheathed sword, remembering the story. "We reached Paness City without incident, and found Rhunön easily. I, being the despicable rogue I am, received this longsword that I still wield to this day. I named it Blohdhurm. My brother was more of a knight-ish kind of fellow. He received a shining greatsword. He gave no name to his sword." "After receiving our swords, Rolf and I thanked Rhunön and departed back home. As we were about to begin traveling on the road we'd always used, a stranger stopped us. He told us of an alternate, faster route through a canyon to the East. We thanked him for the information, and decided to try this new route." "Traveling on the alternate route, we stopped for the night. It had certainly seemed like the road was actually taking us a lot longer to get home, as we wouldn't have had to stop on our old route. But Rolf put it up to us starting later than usual, and so we settled down for the night." "My acute sense of hearing detected the clang of a sword accidentally bumping against a shield. Rolf must have heard it as well, because both of us leaped to our feet, and grabbed our weapons. We weren't in our armor, as we had been sleeping seconds before, but we figured we could handle whatever could be coming at us. We had no tent, only twin bedrolls, so we simply stayed on guard, and waited for the intruder to come." "A figure walked into the light of the fire. It was the stranger that had directed us to this route! He was dressed in full armor, and was accompanied by four of his friends, similarly armored. Rolf and I simply stared, feeling like idiots for not being careful enough to just go on our old route and not get ambushed like this, with only our leather jerkins and pants on. The stranger greeted us, as smug smile on his face. He told Rolf and I of travelers he had killed, convincing them to go on this road. He said he wanted our fancy swords, and would kill us to get them." "Rolf didn't take to that threat too well. Rolf, with the speed only an elf could have, ran straight at the stranger, and beheaded him with his new shiny greatsword. The stranger's body fell to the ground, as his head rolled into the bushes. The stranger's companions stood for a moment, dumbfounded. They then yelled a battle cry, and ran to avenge their fallen comrade." "Rolf and I met them with fierce determination and slashing swords. Rolf easily stabbed through the first, and began dueling the second. I ran at the third, using the hilt of my sword to bash his helm in. He was momentarily stunned, so I pressed my advantage and cut his head off, so I could begin work on the fourth." "Rolf was gaining the upper hand when I went to fight with the fourth of the dead stranger's companions. This man was tall, and built like a stone wall. He was also very well armored. He was slow, though. We dueled for quite a while. My mind was reduced to 'hack, slash, parry, hack slash, parry, parry, parry, slash'. I was not going to let this wall of a man overpower me. I landed a flying kick to his chin, making him stumble backward. I then went on the attack. I backed him onto a tree, where he managed to land a blow to my left arm. Pain sliced through me. Then, out of nowhere, Rolf stabbed the man in the armpit, and the battle was ended. The last thing I remember was taking a fleeting glance at the blood-soaked road, and then I blacked out." "I woke up a week later at home. My mother was standing over me, smiling sadly. I rose wearily, and asked her where Rolf was. She told me that he had carried me home after I blacked out, and barely made it home. He had laid me on the table, calling for my mother, when he had collapsed of exhaustion. He died the day after. It turns out that the third of the strangers had landed a blow to his kidney, mortally wounding him. It was a miracle that he made it home at all, especially while carrying me." "To this day I think of him often. I keep his sword, the one that he saved me with, in a glass case at home. I go to his grave every chance I get. Rolf was a great man, and I'm glad to have had him as my brother." Jess slumped into her seat. She had not meant to reveal that much about her past, but it had all come spilling out. Jess took a sip of her ale. Quote
Masked Builder Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "That is some story Jess. I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. He died helping his sister though." Quote
K-Nut Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "I'm sorry for your loss Jess. I had a brother once, but I know nothing about him. He is dead and his name was Dalorin. I believe, from what I've been told, he died similar to what happened to you. We were ambushed by robbers. I took a blow to the head and forgot everything I knew. I was brought home by a family friend, who's name escapes me even today. Dalorin had died. That's when I started on the road to becoming a mage, but that's another story." Althior raised his bottle to make a toast. "To our loved ones who gave everything for us." Althior then took a huge sip of his drink, and passed out then and there. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Sad stories seem to be something many of us seem to have in common. But then again, it wouldn't be very heroic of us if we did have families and left them for Heroica. Quote
Sisco Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Jess raised her mug. "To Rolf." Jess drank deeply, thinking of her heroic brother, without whom she probably wouldn't be sitting here today. "He was my inspiration to join Heroica. I read a poster that was tacked to a tree one day, advertising Heroica. I instantly thought of Rolf, and came here." "Now if you fellows don't mind, I think that I'll be retiring to the inn across the street now. Don't want to fall asleep in here again, do we?" So Jess stood up out of her chair, and slowly walked to the door, slightly wavering due to the amount of mead and ale she had drunk. Jess nodded to her new friends before walking out the door, to check into the inn. Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 That was a a heroic action, and an action I respect deeply. Sorry for your loss. Now, who shall stay in the bar all night? I shall. And talk. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Now, who shall stay in the bar all night? I shall. And talk. Maybe not all night, but I'm not going to bed yet. Scheherazade, I'll have some coffee, black, please. Now then, what do you want to talk about? Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Maybe not all night, but I'm not going to bed yet. Scheherazade, I'll have some coffee, black, please. Now then, what do you want to talk about? I'll have some coffee too, please with some honey. 1. No, maybe not all night. As people slowly stream out of the bar, Bacari starts to talk privately. "So what do you think, of the people, of this organization?" Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "So what do you think, of the people, of this organization?" Most of them seem fairly friendly, and many appear to be proficient warriors. What about you? Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Most of them seem fairly friendly, and many appear to be proficient warriors. What about you? I like some, others I have not established good diplomacy with, others I haven't met. At first I though there was some clan against me, as the Barbarians who have a grudge against me, and Jess, started sitting at this table. The Ranger Elf Alexis, she's nice, the cleric (OOC: dannylonglegs), I forget his name, he's a good person, with some skill he has learned as well with the ranger. Eric, I'm unsure, he is very.... unusual so I must wait for a clearer picture. Quote
Fred Fred Burger Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "To Ralph" Chris said raising his mug to his lips. Loss seems to be a common theme among heroes uniting them and strengthening their resolve. I however have no sad stories to tell. My father and mother are still alive, though very old, and they rule benevolently over the idyllic small town of winds meadow in a valley up north. I have two brothers a ranger, and a mage and one sister a cleric all in good health sense I heard from them last. And best of all I have a fiancee waiting for me back home. A beautiful girl two years my younger with beautiful blonde hair, daughter of a king from the west. Quote

Most seem to be willing to discuss rather than brawl, though, which is a good thing. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Cronk's friends tell such sad stories. Make Cronk feel sad. Cronk thinks going for walk to clear Cronk's head sounds good. Cronk talk to all Cronk's friends later when Cronk returns. Quote
Fives Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I do not trust you! You have an evil laugh! Or is that MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH? How should I know? I'm not evil. "I'm not evil! I just like to have a good time! Anyway, its been a long day, so I'll be off to bed." Trotter hops off his stool a heads to the bedrooms of the Heroica inn. Quote
Lego Pinocchio Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Waking up from his long nap in his chair, Trotter saw the dwarf in the room. "Finally, I'm not the only short guy here! Whats your name?" "Thrain, be my name" shouted Thrain as he pulled himself off of the floor where he had slept "Great, more people have arrived to drink me ale" Thrain shouting once again in anger over his lost ale "where did that ranger go? He was here a second ago" Thrain muttered After getting no reply Thrain got up and walked over to the towering message board "AH, a farming quest sounds like the one for me! #1 it is then" Thrain boomed in his constantly loud voice Quote
Darkdragon Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 A young woman weilding a staff with a deep purple gem atop it joins the crowd headed into Heroica Hall and quietly makes her way through the crowded entrance. The air crackles around her each time she passes a cleric, but she doesn't let that bother her tonight. Tonight she is headed straight to the quest board to sign up for her first quest and start her real-world training as a Mage, for there is only so much a feeble old instructor can teach in a classroom. Making her way through the crowd is a bit annoying but she finally gets in a position close enough to the board to give it a good read. It doesn't take long for her to decide that Quest #3: The Missing Matriarch is the right quest and write her name in an open slot. Now that her mission for the night is complete she surveys the room looking for a place she can sit and read her fighting techniques book for a while, possibly get a bite to eat and some ale to wash it down. The place is packed already and more are streaming in by the minute, she sighs to herself as she counts the number of mages she can see on just one hand. Quote
Lego Pinocchio Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 After joining Quest#1: Harvest Time Thrain hobbled over to a young mage who had just entered the hall. "You know I was going to become a mage when I was a boy, but me clan wouldn't allow it" Thrain exclaimed after a long pause Thrain finally asked "what would your name be miss?" Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Tesni woke up with a start. The crowds had grown further. "I must go to the sea and freshen up" She strode purposefully from Heroica Hall. Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Luc heads out, then notices a coin pouch with someones name on it. He goes into the bar, orders a drink and gives it to Scheherazade. "I will give it to them" she says. Luc,Zeus, 2 glasses of milk and 2 pieces of Chicken head to the table where all the others sit. "Anyone wanna hear a story? And Zeus, eat your chicken then patrol outside. If anyone is in danger help. Howl if you need us." Zeus, The Wolf, heads out the door. Quote
Lego Pinocchio Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "A well trained pet you've got there" Muttered Thrain thinking about his dog back home "I would be interested in a story if you have one, anything to break the silence that has fallen on this place" For the room though it was full seemed empty! Quote
Khorne Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Eric lifted his head from the table. Apparently, his tiredness had gotten the better of him last night and he had fallen asleep. Maybe it was for the best, since he doesn't really like being in a big crowd and he was sitting at the most crowded table in the saloon, after all. "This place is crowdier than my native country," Eric thought. In the back of his head he remotely heard some of the conversations of last night, he must've subconsciously picked up while sleeping. He was confused by the voices, many of them were new and he had not heard them before. "Gah, I need food," he muttered, rubbing his eyes. Eric looked around and noticed many people he knew had left the bar and had been replaced with new faces. Amongst them a Dwarf and another Mage. Eric yawned and quickly ate the breakfast he had ordered. He grabbed his sword and smiled a goodbye at Jess, the Elven Rogue he had met the first night. As Eric stepped outside the doors, he was momentarily blinded by the sunlight that was shining strongly. "Great day to spend outdoors," he thought and left for the sea, eager for swim in the cold water. That would surely waken him up. Maybe he would even be able to do some sword practicing on his own. He looked forward to this new day. Quote
Lego Pinocchio Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "Who on earth was that person?" Thrain thought to himself, his eyes following a barbarian leaving the room "The room is still quite quiet" Thrain shouted watching all of the sleeping heroes roll over to escape his booming voice "I may as well eat something" He said heading towards the bar "The salted pork looks great" Quote
Lego Pinocchio Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 "Ale is great" Slurred Thrain once again falling off of his chair and going to sleep Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Ok, so it seems most of the others are asleep. I might just order some more milk and water for me and zeus. Thinking Carefully about quests, Luc signs up for Quest 1 as well. Is anyone not sleepin? Quote
