IC: De'kra noticed the reply and responded;

In truth I worry that I will not be of much help, my memories are very...incomplete of war. I will see what I can suggest, it won't be much though.

Do you know if the elves are attacking all at once, or if they are in waves? If the latter, perhaps you could loot the Elves after the first attack for more supplies. Especially if they have siege weapons. But that won't help you immediately.

I believe that at least one of the mages with you has power over earth. Perhaps he could strengthen the weakened wall. If the elves you face have resistance to spells like the three  the heroes of Quest 4 faced, it might be a good idea to use your spells in unique ways.

Keep in mind however that in the Quest we traveled with a Brobic Elf briefly, and he had no immunity. He was a low ranking elf who had not seen much combat, only level 2 when we met him. I don't know that if he had possessed greater skill and experience then he would have had immunity, or if some Brobric Elves just don't have resistance. Just be aware that some elves might be vulnerable to your spells and some might not be. It might be tied to levels.

Have you considered freezing the forest slightly? If you turn the ground into mud over by the western wall, there still is a chance they they could navigate the mud through the branches. But if the trees had a layer of icy, they might loose their grip. The fall at least should do some damage. You don't have to freeze it solid, just enough to make it slippery. Hopefully some of this is useful.

By the way, what was the story behind the Lion Knights anyway? We found out that they were purchasing a field from the Hinckwells, and we suspected that they might be farmers, but we never got direct confirmation. The fact that the Lion Knights seemed to be here solely for agriculture was the reason we deemed them and the Hinckwells innocent, and instead attacked the elves at the Quest's end

Atramor wasn't blind to the dark-looking mage's impish grin at Alf. Raising an eyebrow, he addressed the wizard.

"I can tell you share my view on barbarians - just don't send him out into the middle of the field, all right? We can't afford to lose our heads, mate."

"Oh, and pr'haps you could lend that Helmet to somebody, won't do much good sitting in your pocket."

This statement brought up a memory in Atramor's mind - he walked over to the Shade, De'kra.

"Hey, mate. Got on a Quest...still don't mind me borrowing that cloak?"

at hearing this, Alf does that thing *when they like stamp their foot and what is at their feet rotates up* to a bench, does a back flip back and flips the bench in the air and lands it down almost perfectly ending the stunt.

"What you say?"

IC: De'kra nodded and handed him the Cloak of the Elven Spy. "Use it well," the shade stated, "Remember to return it to I after you Quest, if I still here." De'kra would miss that cloak, though not too much. The significance of it to him wasn't really it's power, but that two of the other heroes had helped him buy it. Sure he had paid them back later, but it was still kind of them to do so.

Atramor nodded at the Shade slowly, donning the cloak excitedly.

"Thanks, mate. Won't get a thread outta place," he assured.

In the background, Alf was having some sort of delusion, which he ignored, but McCafferey seemed to enjoy watching the barbarian land flat on his back.

Alf thinks Atramor might be having delusions, thinking Alf landed on back. "Ok Alf think we should get along. Not fight each other, fight meanie monsters and stuff!"

Phillip Bonaparte walked into the Hall to find that all six heroes chosen for the quest were ready to go.

"Ah, excellent, heroes! I hope you are all prepared for the quest. Meet me at Eubric Harbor tomorrow afternoon, and I shall explain to you the task ahead."

Atramor blinked at the Bonaparter, but merely nodded off-handedly as he nursed a mead. He'd forgotten - this was the Bonaparte quest. Still, he had to get over it at one point or another, sooner or later. Why not now?

Alf turns to the fine-dressed man. Alf listens for instructions and nods.

"Alf do good job quest. "

En Sabah Nur glanced quizically at the rogue, wondering how he knew the contents of his pouch. Rogues...could never be trusted. The mage nodded as the Bonaparte representative made his announcement then he followed the elf lost in thought.

"You there, Alexis. I got your name from the Quest board announcement. I am En Sabah Nur. We shall be questing together soon. As an evoker, what manner of beasts can you bring forth?"

IC: De'kra sighed to himself, for soon another Quest would begin and he would be alone. It was his own fault, but it would still be a slow time. But De'kra could wait, soon enough one of the current quests would end anyway. In the meantime De'kra remembered something that the Mage might want to know. Quickly he enscribed into the strange book.

"Me too, De'kra, it just seems like us two have no luck getting onto quests!" :cry_sad:

IC: De'kra shook his head and clicked, "You read I expression wrong. I not particularly upset about quests, I have not even signed up for second quest yet. I annoy that other heroes gone, and I have few heroes to speak to. By way, look at message heroes on Quest 17 sent about Lion Knights and houses."

Those are good ideas, thanks. The Lion Knight commander say he thinks the elves will attack in waves, but we can't be certain--we have no spies or saboteurs in their camp, so all we have to go on is guesswork.

The Lion Knights are experts in agriculture, reknowned for their prowess. The Hinckwells hired them to develop their fields, and they apparently chose to keep it secret so the higher-ups in the Hinckwell family could secretly gain a monopoly on food production for Eubric. It sickens me to think that were it not for the Hinckwells' greed, which prompted their secrecy, the Lion Knights might have been publicly welcomed as peaceful agriculturalists, their knowledge shared with all of Eubric, and this entire war averted.

And yet, I'm not certain I entirely believe the Hinckwell commodore's excuse for his superiors. The Lion Knights are good men, it's true, but I'm not so certain about the Hinckwells. I think that they really wanted the Lion Knights to come here to help them take over all the farms of Eubric--not by forcing them out of business, but just by force. The Lion Knights are formidible fighters, and if some event prompted their men to summon their land's standing army, they could easily wipe out any force on Eubric. It is my belief that either the Shadeaux got the jump on the Hinckwells, trying to ruin their plan and making themselves a profit at the same time...or, the Hinckwells wanted this war, and they purposely led the Shadeaux into inciting the Brobric Elves. A simple raid would have provided an adequate excuse to summon the Lion Knights' full strength, but the Hinckwells and the Shadeaux both underestimated the strength and violence of the Brobric. Neither the Hinckwells nor the Shadeaux are necessarily trying to overthrow Eubric through this war, but both are guilty of wrongdoing.

After reading of the Hinckwell and Shadeaux children at the school in Eubric, and seeing the way the common workers and noblemen of these Houses operate, I have come to the conclusion that the Houses themselves are not bad--it is simply the greedy, power-hungry leadership that causes the problems. Perhaps it is time for a regime change at the top--but that is a Quest for another day. In any event, take heart in the fact that you are not at fault for this war--no side is or was fully right (even the Lion Knights, honorable as they are, have put their trust in a greedy, corrupt House), and you were bound by your duty as a Hero to complete your Quest. You were in a no-win situation, and you did an admirable job of correcting the wrong as best you could.

Live long, and play well, De'kra!

~Two new quests have been posted on the Questboard (#21 by cralegoboy and #22 by Bricksandparts)!~

~The sign-up period for all three open quests have been extended to an indefinite date on January, although the Quest Masters can in this case end the sign-ups prematurely if they get enough players.~

Seeing that the Quests would not interfere with most culture's holiday celebrations, Tarn went to the board and wrote his name under Quest #20: Missing Minerals and Quest #21: Family History. Quest#20 intrigued him because he was himself from the Mountains of Titaan, so would love to help.

IC: De'kra noticed that the ranger's mind had gone on to other matters, and in turn shifted his attention to different concerns. Those villagers in his memories, why were they so blurry? Every so often he got a taste of what they looked like, but it was barely anything. He know that they were roughly humanoid, with two arms, two legs, a body, no tail, and one head with two eyes, but aside from that he knew nothing about them. They could look like anything from a troll to an elf. So what were they?

Boomingham thrusts open the doors to the hall.

"It's been ages!" he bellows happily. "But I am once more home! Where are my friends?! How is everyone? Bring me drink, bring me drink. Where is Thothwick, and Eric, and my dearest Tesni?! That little Imp Hybros, I haven't seen him once I left. And Nyx, if you're around, you owe me a drink off!" Boomingham saunters up to the bar, and greets his orc nemesis. "Scheherazade, how lovely to see you again. I will take one of every drink you have, I haven't had anything for ages. Where are my friends? What has passed since I left? Last thing I heard was that some folks were off to look around some sewers or something, and this arena business was going down? Anyone care to fill me in? Whatever happened with those Lion Knight chaps everyone was all up in arms about?"

Amorith stumbles back into the hall in the wake of Boomingham, he tried to shrink into the shadows but Boomingham grabbed him and pulled him along to the tavern.

"Don't you try to sneak away on me." Boomingham laughed, "We were to have a celebratory drink together"

Amorith mumbles incoherently but then forced a smile onto his face.

"Yes Boomingham, I did say that. I remember Nyx speaking of Sizzling gumballs or something similar. I will have one of those."

"Where is that curious little shade De-Kra? I hope he is well."

Amorith allows himself to be dragged to a table and sat down and despite himself actually enjoyed it.

"What has been happening here? I remember some talk of a lady Wren, was she nice?

"Mr. Marvelo, glad you're joining me," Boomingham grins as he sips his drink. "Did you look at the Quest board yet? Always a good idea to do, it's right down there on the way up to the bar, you know. What adventure do you think you'll be heading off on? I'm thinking that I should head off to the snowy regions. Those mages... well, I don't trust them, no offense to you or Nyx, but I haven't met many good mages beyond the two of you. What say you? I'd like to head out again with either you or Nyx, or the both of you! That wintry quest seems to have quite a few nice spoils for us, if you're feeling up to it! Besides, it could be the three of us!"

Posted

"That sounds like great fun and I am all for more loot, lets go sign up now."

Amorith stands, feeling very woozy.

"Maybe in a little while"

"Anyway, what brought you to Heroica in the first place, I heard a rumour that you fought in the Orcish wars?"
