Anyway, ask away if there are any questions as to how War works. I admit, it's a little confusing, but I THINK it should be clear enough. Quote
Sisco Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I really have to apologize to the heroes on my quest. Three crappy rounds in a row! I promise I'm not using a loaded die. Quote

Peppermint_M Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Um, if I started the quest: Level 15 Berserker Power: 23 Health: 31/31 Gold: 480 Inventory: Cysgodion the Great Sword of Darkness (WP: 8, Darkness) And now I am Level 18 with a WP:11 Sword as my default equipped weapon, I think my Power should be higher than 24... As for the battle, I'll figure it out Quote
Zepher Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I'm dumb, you're right, you pointed it out in the Quest too. I read it and took note of it, and then failed to correct it. My apologies, I'm off to fix it now. Quote
Pandora Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 OOC: I would like Nyx to be in charge of controlling Octavian. I'm not sure I can - I have a side quest playing out in PM. I'd be more than happy to control Octavian as I'm watching the quest (and wanting Nyx to fight along side you) but it will obviously depend on cralegoboy. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I can't figure out what the code is. This is one puzzle all right... Quote
Zepher Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Peppermint-M, I never readjusted your stats for when you changed back to your Darkness sword. That was my problem, and I'm sorry. On an unrelated note: Sandy, you are a great example of "practice makes perfect". Your two current quests are very, very entertaining to read. They have great pictures, a great cast of characters, and awesome battles, as well as a number of different types of puzzles. It is a lot of fun, and I am loving both of them. They feel very "epic" to me, the heroes are exploring a lot, meeting many people, and really doing a lot. Quote
JimBee Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I also like the two quests of yours, Sandy. But the anachronisms are killing me! Quote
Flipz Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) I also like the two quests of yours, Sandy. But the anachronisms are killing me! This is LEGO. Anachronisms are a contractural requirement. EDIT: Oh, wait, do you mean that literally? Edited January 28, 2012 by Flipz Quote

It is a lot of fun, and I am loving both of them. They feel very "epic" to me, the heroes are exploring a lot, meeting many people, and really doing a lot. Why thank you! I'm really trying my best to offer new and more interesting challenges to the players (even though it means longer quests). Hope the players on my quests are still keen on continuing, because both quests will apparently still be going on for a while. I can reveal that I've gotten several new ideas along the way, and just slipped them into the quests (Hoptet might be the most glaring example of tacked-on content, but I really felt the party could use a healer). So not everything was planned from the start, which only makes it more fun for me to host these quests. Any inconsistencies that the players might come across are caused by this fact, though. I also like the two quests of yours, Sandy. But the anachronisms are killing me! What, you don't think pirates and robots mix well with knights and wizards? Thank you, anyway. It means a lot to me that people are enjoying this game. Quote

I'd be more than happy to control Octavian as I'm watching the quest (and wanting Nyx to fight along side you) but it will obviously depend on cralegoboy. I meant control his actions in the battle since someone needs to say what he does while fighting and your character cannot currently participate in the battle. Quote

swils Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Sandy, I'm in need of a quick refresher course on Undead enemies (it's early, and I'm quite groggy). They're not affected by "normal attacks", but looking back to Quest #5 (the first one that came to mind in which undead were fought), I saw that Althior was able to damage one with a lightning spell. Does that mean my lightning axes could damage it, or should I toss a potion, too? Heh Quote

Sisco Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 but looking back to Quest #5 (the first one that came to mind in which undead were fought) Somewhat off-topic, but it's pretty cool to see that my quest is remembered and referenced. Quote
CMP Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Just as an idea, since some Quests often require a player to stay behind and do something else (notably Quest 21, right now), that perhaps it could be noted separately for the main party? For example, 'This quest will require a balanced part of 5, and another individual to undertake a different leg of the quest, involving ______.' Just an interesting though. I noticed it took a page or 2 for that quest to decide who to leave behind. The description will confirm that the person will be doing something, while still separate from the party. And if you were not high enough level or wanted interaction in the quest, you wouldn't have to sign up for that slot? Just a thought. It's not terribly important, just thought I'd make the suggestion, so people know what exactly they're signing up for. Quote
Sisco Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Eh, it was part of the surprise for my quest. Originally, Gilderoy was going to stay behind, and there was no assassin. But then Gilderoy was assassinated, so Ignatious had to stay and he wanted a bodyguard because of the assassin. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 (edited) QM Note: There is a distinct pattern. Trying every possible combination with brute force will not help you. Think about the elements, and think about what can go where. Remember, the frog is there too... I have a feeling that once we solve this puzzle, it's gonna make me feel stupid... I bet there's an easy way to do this by looking at the elemnets, and there's a hard way, by doing the math to figure out what moves and why... This is not simple problem. JimBee Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 It's only difficult if you make it that way, as I learned when I first did it. It's a simple solution using simple logic (that may take a while to figure out), but I have faith. No math involved. And if anyone not in Quest 18 would like to try, feel free to PM me. Quote
Pandora Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 The mood has passed somewhat, but there was discussion about why players chose the class they did, and for Mages what their starting gem was. I keep meaning to post about Nyx. I actually said quite a lot about her in my initial post in Heroica Hall (here) but I thought I'd just say a little more. I was the first Heroica Mage, and yes, I'm a little proud of that. There was, therefore, no reference point for me, except an idea of what Sandy's vision was for Heroica from what he'd said. Those of us playing the Test Quest were asked to select a different class each. Mage was my first choice for class; in RPGs I always get most excited about the magic side of things. I play a lot of console-based RPGs (most recently Skyrim, of course) and while it's always great fun to decapitate people, it really is so much more fun to set them on fire. Additionally, having never seen a prior quest (by definition) I had no idea what enemies might be seen (or what Sandy may have up his sleeve ) so I really just had to pick an element. Many of the RPGs I've played in the past have had Fire magic as the most basic spell learnt, so it seemed logical to me that Fire should be the first element, and that then became incorporated into Nyx's backstory. She is, first and foremost, a Fire Mage, and has a personality and temprament to match. Making her a slightly stroppy teenager also seemed to fit, she can certainly be volatile, and she is meant to be everything that Fire is - warming, sustaining and passionate but uncontrollable and destructive. During the Test Quest Nyx picked up an Amethyst and thus also learned Darkness magic, which again suited her personality and her slightly murky past, so she started Heroica-proper with both gems, perhaps making it difficult to distinguish which was her primary element. I add this mainly because I think I came from a unique standpoint when creating the character and joining the game. I'm very happy to still be playing, and still questing, albeit invisibly at the moment. Quote
Fred Daniel Yam Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Buy Nyx looks so friendly and innocent with the smile and pink wand.. Quote
