So Skrall actually started out as a character for a lego comic I had had very closely to the style of Sandy's Princess Quest, where in he was a Robin Hood of Ogres who assisted the main protagonist. So when Heroica came up, I decided to pull him out of the closet, dust him off and throw him into the race conflicts of the present history. I wanted to model him as a rebellious baby of the family who chose his own path in dealing with orcish prejudice. More recently he's turned into a picture of the modern day working man, separated from his ogress, paying child support, dealing with orcish prejudices, not much into politics or higher learning, just trying to make a living for himself. I don't have any big plans for him as of the moment, he'll probably end up becoming a Hunter unless events in quests nudge him in a different direction.

I must say that reading through everyone's back stories is really interesting and I'm interested to see how some of them develop.

Question Sandy, if someone in our Party throws a retrievable item, can someone else from the Party fetch it back?

I love to hear all of your background stories for the characters you've created. I have to say that we've seen some amazing personalities come to life during this game, they make this experience that much deeper.

Ellaria started as an example character for the rules, but when I decided that I'd want to join the game as a player as well, I just grabbed her and started molding her into a more personified character. Ellaria has already grown from a timid healer to a brave yet empathic warrior, and I have quite a few twists and turns planned out for her. I've already hinted of the tragedy that took place when she was exiled from the village she grew up in, and I don't think that her true origins are that hard to guess when you consider that she was found from Sylvania's sacred grove as an infant and has been hearing the goddess's voice ever since that.

Please, keep on sharing your thoughts!

I'd say yes, but only to their own inventory. Exchanging items mid-battle takes one turn from both players.

Guts is the kind of guy that will punch you in the face for looking the wrong way at him, but there is more to him. He is also experienced in life, and grew up in the streets. He comes from a city-state I called Strivvi, it is supposed to be a little bit similair to Eubric, but different, I would describe it: The same amount of crooks, criminals and lowlife, but a smaller population, and an ongoing battle between two factions for the power. I have plans to design a quest set in this city, I have some interesting concepts for it...

Despite his proffesion and character, he has a strong sense of justice, which is perhaps twisted. He hates magic, especially dark magic, and despises mages. Especially people that would use their magic powers for their own gain, can expect problems with Guts. The reason for this, I wont reveal, but I have hinted at it. :classic:

the Backstory...

My father's an engineer and his job required us to move around a lot.

Nur's dad is a thief and his job required them to move around a lot to avoid capture.

There was one place we lived the longest that ended up being my favorite.

Nur lived longest in an orc settlement and it came to be his favorite.

Despite his time there, Nur only partially learned the orc tongue.

I've lived in a predominately Mexican community for the past 4 years yet I'm still not fluent in Spanish.

the Character...

Nur's bandana over one eye look comes from my Maa'ri orc Rogue of quest 12. I chose mage because at the time the class was underepresented and garnet gem because I've always enjoyed earth manipulators beginning with Kwame from Captain Planet leading to the earthbenders of Avatar.

Despite becoming a "hero", Nur acts more like his father than he'd like to admit and struggles to give up the thieving lifestyle.

Well, I'm purposefully keeping Althior's backstory in the dark a bit, but I'll just have a recap here:

Althior was born to the Emorith's, who died after his sister, Lilian's, birth. They were taken in with their grandfather, Olphius Emorith, it was there that Lilian and Olphius died (details to be revealed later on ) Althior, at the young age of 21, decided to put the past behind him and lived on the road. He was gifted with powering things, thus given his topaz. He shrouded his sad past by developing a happy go lucky character. As the grasp of Abraxas thickens, Althior gets darker and darker. He's a guy that, behind his huge, comical grin, now is wondering how you'll die. He's accepted the fate of mortality, and he'll stop at nothing to make the most of his terribly short life.

Tarn has the honorific of Valco, which is the name of the group of Clerics who raised him from a boy into the hero he is today. He is a very straight-laced good guy, not yet old enough to know how the world works as opposed to how he naively believes it works because he has been told so. I think him and Guts are REALLY going to clash in Quest#20.

Tarn is more like a Knight than a stereotypical Barbarian, but the first few days of Heroica character creations had about 6 Knights sign up, and Barbarian powers seemed to fit someone who is foremost a warrior. I asked Sandy very early on if it was OK to have a more refined Barbarian, and of course it was.

I had originally decided that Tarn would be a Cleric/Barbarian mix (Shaman) due to being raised by Clerics, however as more of his Knightly qualities come into play during the Quests I might well have him be a Knight/Barbarian hybrid.

Fun fact: My iTouch autocorrect changes Tarn into Yarn, I have to look out for it every time!

I do have to say that I love that about Skrall, I think it's funny and a great character every time he says some middle-aged working man quote. It is what makes Skrall such a unique and good character.

And just pulling one of the things I've heard that is great. I love all the back-stories, and I really do think some characters are extremely strong. I won't list them because I'll drop someone, but I will say that there are quite a few I really want to quest with because I really do want to reveal at least some of Boomingham's back-story and none of the characters he's quested with have pulled it out of him yet (not a slight to those characters, they just happen to not be the characters to do it).

And now I get to develop a whole new character in Barty! Sandy gave me a gift with her minor introduction, and I have only a few plans for him so far, so I'm excited to see what happens with him.

Might as well give Cronk's story. When I first heard Sandy was making this sort of game, I went strait to my minifig collection and started trying different combinations to see what I liked. There was just something about an Orc almost hidden in a great helm that looked awesome to me. Then I started thinking about what kind of guy Cronk was. I wanted him to have a kind of purity about him that was disarming to those around him despite his appearance. I hope it comes through. Sometimes I regret backing myself into a corner by never letting him use pronouns but I'm happy with how he's doing.

As far as his background goes, there's some stuff still to be revealed. I was going to go with Paladin as his advanced class but I may decide something else since Etzel's paladins were so mean to him. But I just like the thought of an Orc as a Paladin.

As for Dyric's past, it's been generally told already, but it doesn't hurt to review.

"This is better explained... in backstory."

Dyric and his brother Eyric Rone come from a long line of rogues. Their family has long been employed as the royal guards to the Duplovian throne, using their rogue abilites to capture criminals and assisnate those liable to rise up against the throne. The most 'recent' election ended with a king who was distraught apun learning of Dyric's family, as he was extremley anti-rogue. He quickly had Dyric's father- Cyric- executed in the most bloody and painful way possible. Dyric was the oldest son, and thus he was forced to watch the death as his own torture. As Eyric had not yet gone into the family business, he was left alone, but Dyric was put under extreme pain. The friends of his in the Duplovian military were put in what was predicted to be the bloodiest battle in the past 20 years, and the predictions were right. Dyric was brought to the base camp and watched the fight which claimed all of those friends' lives, as he was held back by chains. His other friends, as well as his lover, where tortured and executed in a various of bloody and violant ways, with Dyric forced to watch it all. He was next. Through the next month or so, he was beaten almost to death and healed by a cleric, over and over again, until they finally forced him into exile, never to return to Duplovia. He made his way to Heroica, where he hoped to redeem himself in the king's eyes, and return to his country.

So, yeah. Dyric is pretty messed up default_laugh_new.gif

So, if you've stuck with me through all of that madness, thanks for reading! Now, I have a new question for you all: Can you give us a teaser of what you have planned for your character this year?

Of course I can! Katie has already been planning a few things with Dak, refining his charcter a bit. Quest #13 definitely was hard on him, and the strain is beginning to rub through into his normal mannerisms. He's going to start getting angry a lot more easily, and his psychic powers are going to get a bit more powerful, leading up to his (eventual) change into a Black Knight when he reaches Level 15. Guts' attitude is definitely starting to get on his nerves, as is the fact that he doesn't have any 'guiding voice' in his life anymore. Eventually (Katie says it won't start until I get him to Level 15) Dak will break down, and become the very thing he was trying to destroy; an uncaring creature, unable to feel emotion, unable to feel empathy. In other words, the perfect villain put in a Hero's body.

Katie must be a lot smarter than me. My brain is having a meltdown with all this roleplay she's planning.

And just when we thought the love plague was over, Cronk now gets his chance

Oh, one of my plans for Arthur involves the Love Plague...and I don't think anyone is going to see it coming. Trust me when I say, it will drag everyone else in.

Though I wish Hinckley was active here so he could help me make it even worse...

Cronk hitting on a female orc would be absolutely hilarious!

But who said the love plague was over? I have a feeling it's going to start back up when Haldor and Jess return from Zepher's quest!
