These opportunities are usually the best ones as it resembles more natural story telling, instead of feeling forced. The companion is there because it makes sense in light of the present story, not just because a player decided "Oh, it would be cool to have a companion". If you look at most of the given examples, Boomingham and Thothwick for instance, their companion was introduced by another player and fit the present situation.

Julio falls to the floor, bleeding. He's able to gasp...

"....Et... tu, heroes?"

I'm surprised that Julio even noticed the heroes were in the room.

"I've heard what happened in Dastan that one time, and it's my belief that Heroica's people fighting each other is one of the dumbest things on this earth."

Hope you don't mind looking like a complete idiot then.

Look. Look. It's Guts' principle that he would not fight another hero (for realzies) unless he would have to defend himself (or a select group of others). And heroes fighting DOESN'T make a lot of sense from Guts' and my own point of view. SO there. That's what I think and I'm sticking to it.

Gonna just throw a bunch of smokebombs or buff Guts up to ludicrous levels that fighting him would be incredibly difficult. (Clippard's poison, the red vial, diamond summoning lamp, whatyagonnnado).

I hate to be a burden, but does anyone have the link for the post about best gems to put in a weapon?

Stupidly, I have lost the link yet again. My apologies.

Alternatively, both Benji and myself have weapons that match the strategy

Rule of thumb I go by: don't worry about gems. They can help you out in a bind, but can also be a burden. If any, go for an amethyst, darkness energy, and socket it in a secondary weapon. Your primary weapon should never have gems infused, so you're never at a disadvantage when dealing with enemies. As well, you'll want to have one non elemental to deal with ethereal enemies, which are starting to become popular.

I disagree with Kintobor, if you're going to do an Amethyst, you might as well do a Diamond, really. It causes that weapon to be able to hit everything, and have an advantage against Undead and Humanoids.
