It's the fight against the Croise all over again. :enough:

Run while you can!!! :distressed:

Nah, each one that comes up gets weaker. All Mizuki needs is a shield and she could possibly intsakill a few. And they still have Haldor and Xander to hold some at bay.

Atramor, you make me want to cry when you haggle. You have quite a few rare items and artefacts and you still wish to haggle.......

Ironically even if I do get my price I won't be able to afford it.

I am confident we can find an agreement that will not lead inevitably to further conflict.

Calling it right now:

"Your overconfidence is your weakness."

Quest 53 (mechanically speaking, all things considered).

And yet we* were still victorious!

* = NPCs notwithstanding

Flipz, just curious because I totally forget, I loaned you the scroll of recklessnes... right? And when?

EDIT: Found it, very beginning of the quest.

Re-reading the quest, trying to re-engage myself as the pacing has thrown me a bit out of it. How'd we get from this:

"Well, it looks like we have one group we'll have to forcefully remove," says Boomingham gruffly, glancing down at his sword.

However, much as Masters Arthur and Boomingham do not wish to admit it, the Pongcanae are more than brutish beasts. They have language and culture of their own. Some suggest they are even native to this island and predate all but the lost moon elf tribes. It is conceivable that they could be a valid party to cede control of the town to rather than being an occasional raiding nuisance.

to this:

"But they've got humans with them. Don't you want to know why?" Boomingham grumbles. "We gave your elves a chance, why not the Pongcanis? I've told the boy I'm not a huge fan of unreasonable second chances, but first chances seem fair."

Nerwen answers gently.

But if a first chance, why not a second, seventh or seventy seventh?

No, I have been reflecting on this. And I think you have a crucial point on the nature of forgiveness and redemption wrong.

Forgiveness is not a matter of worthiness on the part of the recipient. If so it is merely manipulation on the part of the forgiver, who uses readmittance to community to extract particular behaviors.

To say 'there is good in him, I can see it' is meaningless. All moral creatures have the ability to make choices. And all choices effects, some good, others bad. I have previously spoken on the absurdity of measuring the worth of actions solely by their result.

Anyway. Forgiveness is about the forgiver not the forgiven. If someone needs to be redeemed, that is, a price paid for their mistakes, for the need to be forgiven it is obvious the cannot do this for themselves. No one says "oh, I forgive me the harm I dealt you.". No. It is the forgiver who says, "I desire restored relationship with you, accepting you retain the ability to hurt me." Barty is right in this. Change in relationships is tortuously slow. Forgiveness once is never, ever enough. It must be given again and again for big things and small.

So to say 'you have one chance' is weasely and merely a pretense. Decide. Do you want to form a friendship with the pongcanis or not? If so, go all in.

And this all assumes that they are agents capable of moral choices and not simply untamable animals acting on instincts.

The color rose in Nerwen's cheeks as she spoke, clearly the fat paladin's words had touched on a sensitive point for her.

Interesting stuff. :sweet: I'm sad that conversation had to be cut off due to the battle, I think Nerwen and Boomingham still have some interesting places to go conversation-wise in general, but they still haven't chatted quite enough this quest.

Yeah, Arthur's done some flip-flopping too. Unavoidable considering how long we've been out--we change as people in that time, when it's only been a couple of days in-game. :sceptic:

Also, can those Party Bombs please become a regular thing?

Re: Cutscenes, Zeph: do you hate them on principle, or do you just find them to be a pain to write and rarely able to achieve what they're supposed to achieve as effectively as they could?

I am glad others enjoy Nerwen's speeches.

It is a shame that timezone differences means conversation doesn't simply flow.

As for shifting of positions, part of it may be due to my contrary nature. Lawrence argues a point, Nerwen naturally comes up with the counter point. A different perspective and point of view.

But yes, part of it is also the quest running for 94 days so far...

You like them? I've been trying to create more interesting and varied bombs, and ones that deliver status effects I thought would be neat. I could throw a few in another quest.

Both. I love writing long dialogue scenes in books or scripts in general because... well, those work differently. In this game, you need to sometimes just dump information and it can't come up quite as organically as it needs to. I could have made that cut scene better and more organic, but it would have been unfairly long. It's prioritizing - do you make them short and stilted, or long and natural. I think short and stilted works better for the game, but it still drives me a little crazy.

I apologize if it appears I was criticizing the flipping and flopping. I think real humans do it all the time. I like inconsistent characters as long as they stay the same at the core, and I think we've both done that - our opinions may have changed, but our reasoning hasn't. I think it's cool.

So... is the minotaur in 77 the same as Emperor Alandri's bodyguard? Would be damn cool if it were.

No, the bodyguard died in the Battle of Drakencourt. He was in the med bay scene with Sir Lyonel.

There is only one minotaur in the Heroica universe.

Another Whovian here:

"But they just plain wouldn't. If we tell the Guild of the Blood Paws, the Shadeaux will tell the Guild of Hinckwell and Bors! The Guild need only find out about this if the Hinckwells get those bombs, as they'll need to know why the deal changed! If the Shadeuax get those bombs, everything remains quiet, all the houses save some face, and everyone lives, Karie. Just this onces, everybody lives!"

I'm sorry, but this is the awesomest team of Minotaurs ever.
