-zenn Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I want to make a eye catching stand for my Aeronaut moc, since its held by a rather simple and grued one right now. I was instantly thinking of a couple of floating rocks. I already searched a lot of pictures as reference material, made the plants and all other stuff I want to put on it. But when I start stacking stuff together it just doesn't seem to work and look like it should. So is there a good method to make a floating rock? A technique to create nice looking formations? Quote
mikey Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I have no idea about how to make a Floating Rock, but if you have not already read them this topic and this topic discuss making rock/ cliff. I would assume that a Floating Rock uses the same idea, but you build it upside and more three dimensional. At the end of the day making 'natural' objects is trial and error. Quote
Rook Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Functional floating rock? Use magnets. You can search magnets used in making floating trains probably. I’ve seen several builders do that already. Quote
brickmack Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 When I make them, I normally start at the bottom where the point is, and start making layers of slopes (With basic bricks inside for support) getting wider as you go up (I recommend starting with tall slopes at the bottom and short, long ones at the top). If you go with the non-inverted slopes, you will need some SNOT bricks or something to attach plates to the top so you can build stuff. Quote
