I have always bought Lego when I see them but having only seriously gotten back into them recently I have become a little bit more observant when I am out and about pursuing my other collecting hobbies. The Other day I was out and stopped by a garage sale and found this with a tag for 40 bucks. The mother was selling the item for her son to help pay for a new laptop as he was beginning college. I knew that I was getting a deal so I didn't really press her to haggle.

Long story short I obtained a 99% complete(had to substitute in 3 off color pieces) Black Knights Castle set w/Original Box! I really wanted this set when I was younger but my parents wouldn't spend big money on the monster Lego sets so it wasn't too be until now! I was and still am really excited to have stumbled upon this! There were also some extra pieces including 2 extra ghosts, 2 extra minifigs and some odds and ends.

For your viewing pleasure...

Wow, talk about a deal! Obviously they didn't know what they had. I just checked eBay, and you REALLY got a good deal. One auction was with box for $91 sans shipping. Good find!

Great find! This was one of my favorites as a kid. Fortunately my mom spoiled me with those castle sets. But I'd love to pick up another if I saw it for that price!

At $40 this is a steal!

Other than a few gems like 6085 and 6074, this is one of my absolute favourite classic-castle sets. The figures are wonderful and the colour-scheme is nearly perfect with the red roofing and yellow tudor wall pieces breaking up the drab exterior. Even though you're missing a few pieces, the heart of the set is still there. As I consider this the last truly great classic castle I can say I'm really impressed and more than a bit jealous.

Great find.

Thanks guys! I must say that I was more than a little delighted to find this set for so cheap(or at all). This was by far my favorite classic set as a kid and it's probably still my favorite castle set now. Once I substitute in the handful of pieces in their right colors it will be good to go!

I wish people did garage sales where I live, you got a great deal!

Are you going to be going to garage sales more often now, in case you get lucky again?

As others have already stated, finding this set a $40 is a steal. Really good deal! I bought this set five or six years ago on Bricklink and paid $80 or $90 dollars for it, but unlike yours, it didn't include original instructions (they were copies, but I was informed about that, it wasn't a scam  ) or box. Still, it was totally worth all the money. I still have it built and it's one of the most precious sets in my collection  . Those classic knights are just to die for and the castle itself is a real beauty, one of the best ever made.

I couldn't agree with you guys more. I was envious of my friends that had the "cool" sets when I was a kid as all I had were brick builder sets and a few smallish theme sets. The castles, this one in particular, were my favorites. I definitely plan on keeping this one for a long time so that I, as well as my son, can enjoy it.

As far as garage sales are concerned, it has been a slow season around here. This has definitely been my best find over the past few months although maybe some more Lego products will pop up now that I am looking for them more intently. We shall see!

Congratulations! What a gem, it's so rare to find LEGO at a garage sale these days (let alone an almost perfect set). It's a shame the owner couldn't find the white plumes, it looks like he took good care of the set.
