On his Flickr photostream, "EDWW day_dae" (esteemedhelga) posted these pictures of Lego Technic creations being shown at BrickFair 2011 this weekend (August 6-7) near Washington, D.C., USA. The AFOL convention started on Thursday, before the crowds arrived and blocked the view. We know that Paul Boratko (Crowkillers) brought a lot of displays. In the last picture, the placard says that "Full High Quality 200+ page Instructions with Full Parts List Prepared by Joshua Delahunty for the Nathanael Kuipers Concept Car coming soon to http://www.crowkillers.com ." :cry_happy:

How do you suppose the rear wheels of the backhoe are made? I want to make big tractor models (not backhoes) but the limit is that there isn't any lego wheel big enough for that scale.

Is it a lot of small tires put on a "tube"? I really would like to have lego wheels that are 2 dm in diameter (fixed rim with connectors instead of single small axle pin is ok) so I could build some model with lots of internal functions.

The backhoe is my model. Each wheel has an internal structure made of 32 angle connectors and some other parts holding it all together. The actual rubber part of the wheel is made of 32 30.4x14 tires stretched around the frame. The center rim is from the 8051 motorcycle with a yellow xpod cover. The wheel is attached to the backhoe frame via a turntable with gear reduction in the hub. Front wheels are the wheels from 8297.

I'll post a thread about my backhoe in a few weeks. I need to rebuild the front axle and fix a couple of other minor issues before then. I also want to build some enclosures for the battery boxes.

In addition to the backhoe, I had a 16 cylinder radial engine with variable pitch propeller. Not sure if anybody got a picture of that, but I'll throw up a thread about it in a few days.

I look forward to your backhoe thread. I don't understand your description but I assume it will be explained in the upcoming thread. I'm not in a hurry, I can wait. I have the 8110 waiting for me at the post office that I need to "take care of" tonight.

Great Looking Backhoe! Do you have a video? It looks like Paul had a very impressive display on hand. *oh2*

Did they not have any type of barriers set up so people could not get close to your MOCs? It seems like it would be very easy for things to get touched or even stolen from tables. I imagine that there were large crowds?

I'll post up a video and thread about it when I get a few bugs worked out. It might be a couple weeks before I get a chance to do so.

Paul had an awesome display, and his Mustang took the Best Technic award. He has some incredible builds. Really cool guy too.

There were some stanchions set up around the tables, but they were fairly close to the tables. I had some people playing around with my radial engine, but I didn't really care. As long as they didn't touch my backhoe, I was happy. People touching stuff wasn't really an issue for me, but I often wonder what some of the other exhibitors do to keep kids from running off with mini-figures.
