lockdownTF Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 the reason I'm asking is I've got a an idea I want to try out which will use four sets of tracks to power it. I'm probably gonna go with the option of simply running the right and left tracks off of seperate motors to allow for turning. I earlier mocced (now destroyed no pics sorry) up something which had four tracks the front of which were attached to a special turntable with a worm gear attached so you could rotate them and the vehicle would run in a fixed circle until turned off(didn't work sadly). I was just wondering if there are any other practical turning options for a four tracked vehicle rather than simply a motor for left and right tracks and reversing one to turn? Quote

P4trickvH Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think you should check out Mahqja's Stilzkin Indrik. His design also has four tracks and can steer. The steering is done by a hinge between the 2 sections of two tracks. Quote
allanp Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Or you could treat each track as if it was a wheel, and steer each track like you would steer normal wheels. Quote

I don't have any XL motors right now so I might have to go for a simpler option. Quote
DLuders Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 @ LockdownTF: Are you trying to build a motorized version of the Lego Bionicle 8996 Skopio XV-1 set? Quote
lockdownTF Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 @ LockdownTF: Are you trying to build a motorized version of the Lego Bionicle 8996 Skopio XV-1 set? nope I don't wanna say to much right now in case it winds up not work for some reason. I might consider trying a skopio motorization at a later date though Quote
cavegod Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 i built a 4 tracked vehcle that steers like a car and weighing 20kg ish and the tracks don't derail it is very slow though. Quote
