Hi all,

I have the 8043 excavator for a while now, and I love it. I think the playability is great, but it was hard for me to find a good material which is not heavy, and leaves no dust (especially when I want to play with it inside the house on the carpet). So I was trying to replace the bucket at the end of the arm with a claw. I leaved the rest of the model untouched. I know it is a trivial mod, and not realistic, but I didn't see similar online yet, so I uploaded a short video.

I like your claw modification! When I see it lifting the wheels, it seems that the 8043 Motorized Excavator's Power Functions arm is a lot easier to use than the (comparable) pneumatic arm on the new 8110 Unimog U400.

Maybe you can use "The Claw" to grab a pile of these:

This looks like a good MOD of this 8043.

I've got this set MISB since Christmas : You just make me want to open that box and build that excavator ;)

Thank you !

You've got this set MISB and haven't opened it yet? :cry_sad:

It's next on my list to acquire, I sure will not be able to wait that long to crack it open.

imajor,

Looks really nice, do you have any details on how you connected the claw to the boom so that it actually works?

Perhaps a picture from the top will show me what I need.

Thx!

The arm on the 8110 is something left to be desired because it requires precision to operate and pneumatics don't offer that. I'm sure that pneumatics will be a lot better for the plow since it's either up/down or left/right :D

I'm liking this claw and it looks more in place than the huge bucket imo.

Here are some photos without the panels on the sides, hope this helps:

Thats a very nice claw! Why not keep the third actuator to tilt the claw? Did you use that drive to drive the claw closing?

tim

Yes, the third function which was used to tilt the bucket, opens/closes the claw.
