garson Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 The new Unimog portal axle parts, are they able to be retrofitted with the new female cvt joint in the block with the old male cvt joints connecting them to the differential? Quote
Shasat Spacerider Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I think so. The joint part of the CV joint would be able to fit inside the big hole. It would certainly lessen the joint distance from the wheel itself, but the turning radius would be greater. I don't have any of these pieces, I'm just speculating. If only I knew how far can CV joints bend in degrees... Oh, and the female joint in the hub won't be reinforced, but that's not a problem. Quote
allanp Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 The steering angle is about the same as the regular driven hub setup. The only real problem I can see with using these in the unimog hubs is that a gear cannot be pushed all the way up the axle. It is prevented by a half stud long round part you can see in the pic below: (picture credit: by Mortymore on his Brickshelf gallery) Quote

No, that does not work. I tried it, the femal joint would not fit into the hole. Regards, Gerhard Quote
