serge627 Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 (edited) Hello All, My daughters birthday is coming up (8) and she and my son are both big into Lego, well so are my wife and I for that matter! Anyhow, she has recently gotten into the Kingdoms theme, and I can surely appreciate that as I used to be big into Castle Lego when I was younger. Anyhow, she really wants a castle for her birthday, however after seeing my Pirate ship build that I did, she requested I build her a castle from scratch. So who would I be to turn her down on that request, and after several BL shipments I recently started on her Castle's entrance. Below are a few pics of the entrance that I started last night. I plant to make this a play friendly castle, as she is only going to be 8, so playability is going to be a big factor with this build. I plan to complete walls off of each side of this entrance, a few towers and she specifically requested I incorporate a stable! I only plan on front and side walls, for ease of play, though I do want this thing to be pretty big and detailed for her. Any and all comments appreciated, ideas too!! BTW ignore the red slotted bricks that the portcullis is currently riding in, I need to place another BL order Edited July 23, 2011 by serge627 Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I like it overall. It looks very classic. I can't wait to see the rest! Quote
Hoboman Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I think this is a great start. Looking forward to seeing where you go next. Quote
meyerc13 Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Very nicely done. I can't wait to see the progress as you build this. I've been considering doing something similar for my kids, and hope to get some ideas from what you are doing. Quote
Larrynautik Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Entrance just looks great, I would love a set like this Quote
MattieG7 Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I do not possess any Castle/Kingdom sets (Except the Castle Chess) but I came across this, and I have to say I like it a lot. It's a good start to what I'm sure will end up as a very good MOC! I wish you good luck in completing it Matt Quote
serge627 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Well guys, I had some BL orders come in and I was able to get some time to work on the Castle for my daughter. Pics don't quite do it justice, but I am really happy with how it is turning out. Of course after this post I will be going back to BL to continue the search for more bricks! In the pics the King and his Queen are being escorted by the First Knight as the peruse the new structure. Several peasants continue work on the west wall as well. Quote
foolio93 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 This is an amazing start to what I'm sure it will be an even better castle. I like how you made it look like the minifigures are building it. That in itself is pretty creative. Quote
ziljin Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 haha nice, turn your WIP pics into mini mocs. now all you need to do is make a stop motion of your peasants building your castle! Quote
serge627 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 haha nice, turn your WIP pics into mini mocs. now all you need to do is make a stop motion of your peasants building your castle! Yeah, that would be good! I wish I had the time to do that, but I barely get a minute just to build this thing!! I am really happy with how its turning out. The plan for the sides are to do a two story side wall, with second floor rooms, taking ques from the tops of the market village houses ( or something like that I guess we will see when I start piecing together!) BL orders are in, so I can hopefully get to it again soon. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 This is really coming together! I really like those window casings. And the colors work really well together. Plus, bonus kudos on the figures building it for you! Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I love how this is taking shape. I'll be watching this thread, since I'd like to start a modest-sized castle of my own someday. I want to buy the current King's Castle, but I already know it's just a foundation for modifications. Could we get a peek inside your corner tower, serge? Quote
serge627 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 Could we get a peek inside your corner tower, serge? Here you are The tower is supposed to act as a planning and prep area for the castle defense forces. I will be adding a small armory on the ground floor as well. I sure wish the orders would roll in so I can get back to work on this. Its turning out to be a lot of fun and I hope that the end result will be great. Quote
Smidy101 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Nice work I really love the way the peasants are building the wall. The overall design is very classic with good use of new components. Top job. Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 You need a blacksmith to keep the armory stocked. That could easily add a nice play feature or two. A prison tower would be fun, or a wizard tower. It looks great so far. Quote
serge627 Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Got a bit of time to do some work on the right wing of the Castle last night. So far I have posted pics of the interior of the front tower. The rear tower is three stories, however I have not put any decor inside of it yet. The back of the tower is open though for playability (for my 7 year old daughter). I put a small room on the right wing wall, not sure what I will be using that for yet. Also under the floor of the right wall are two stalls for horses, and a blacksmith shop behind that. All in all Im happy with how it is coming together. Quote
ziljin Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 (edited) progress looks great! Really digging that room. And cool that the side wall is not identical to the front wall. Edited August 7, 2011 by lego40k Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Wow, that's coming along nicely. I like seeing these updates. And I agree, as much as I like symmetry, I like the continuation of the design elements without being a direct copy along the side wall. Quote
Gabe Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 This looks great, i hope yr daughter is stoked with it! I especially like that side wall. Are you planning on putting a working drawbridge in there? It looks fine as it is, but it's one of those playability features that is hard to go past. Quote
The Undo Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Wow. Nice castle. It's cool to see how the build progresses. The interior you put in the bottom of the tower is adorable. Quote
Hollander Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Very nice. Could be a official TLG set if it was a little smaller. Good job! Quote
serge627 Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) Well the big day finally arrived and thankfully the castle was 95% done Anyhow, we suprised her with the castle and she loves it!!
