The topic came up in another thread, so I started wondering how many factions people have in their kingdoms.

I have four "factions" but some are mixed and some not. For example, I have the new Dragon Knights that I use as they are. But I also have a set of knights I made from some minifigs I owned and will not use. So I added armor and helms and pu tthem on Horses.

The reality is, though, that I imagine this could change as my collection grows.

Fantasy Era (2007-10) Crownies, Kingdoms Lions and Kingdoms Dragons. I just pop one or two Crownies in amongst my Kingdoms MOCs and dress him up with a backpack or a knapsack to make it look like he's travelling between kingdoms.

Well I have a couple factions!

The biggest group is the "Lions", who is all connected to the Queen and her crusader in some way.

Crusader, with the Queen who rules the Kingdom

The White Lions, the leader is son to the Queen (The new Lions knights)

The Royal Lions, the leader is the old war advisor to the queen

The Royal Knights, the leader is the Queens uncle

The Lions have an alliance with these

Black Falcon

Black Knights

Dragon Knights (The new Dragon knights)

The Crownies

The Dragons

they are all in war against these:

The Snakes

The Bulls

Wolfpack

These fellows doesn´t care about the raging war.

Forestmen

so in all there are 13 factions, all which I´m building a castle/lair for.

Only 2, the white/red crownies of the contemporary kingdoms series and my growing army of normal and customized wood elves. It is fun to turn the one elf prototype into a whole faction.

Let's see..

The new Lions(1) of course. Under them, the older Crusader lions(2), with an alliance with the Black Falcons(3).

The new Dragons(4), who are in an alliance with the older Black Knights(5) (different takes on a similar symbol, much like the Crusaders/Kingdom lions).

We throw in the Forestmen(6) and Wolfpack(7) for good measure.

Now I just need to build some fortresses for all of them and have an all out war!

My largest faction would be the Crusaders since I have only recently gotten back into buying sets. But I have slowly been collecting newer Lions/Dragons and would like to build up the Falcons eventually.

Only 2, the white/red crownies of the contemporary kingdoms series and my growing army of normal and customized wood elves. It is fun to turn the one elf prototype into a whole faction.

That sounds really cool. A whole elven army!

my main faction is the lion kinghts from the current wave

they are in alliance with a custom faction of mercenaries

next i have a faction of undead soldiers in alliance with the crown knights

then there's the current dragon knights along with what i call their reserve guard (aka the old black knights).

so i guess that's three main groups that can each be divided into two factions.

it would have been easier to say new lion knights or just lion knights.

Anyway. My kingdoms

Large (50+)

Lion Knights

Dragon Knights

Medium (around 30-50

Persians

Sentient undead (ninjago and fantasy skeletons)

Small (around 20ish)

Crown Knights

Dwarves

Trolls

Japanese (mostly ninjas, 4 samurai)

Pirates(soon to be medium)

Generics(soon to be medium)

Peasants

Tiny (5 or less)

I have 17 factions, but they are all involved in 7 alliances. There are two "good" alliances, the others are "evil" alliances, to varying degrees. No custom armies... I'm too boring to invent my own!

Peaceful:

Red alliance of kingdoms: Old Lion Knights (AKA Crusaders) + Royal Knights + New Lion Knights

3846p4g.gif3846p4h.gif3846p4d.jpg3846pb27.jpg

Blue alliance of kingdoms: Knights Kingdom I + Knights Kingdom II + Crown Knights

3846px5.jpgbb158b.jpg3846pb24.gif

Lawless:

"Outlaw Pact": Forestmen + Wolfpack

3846p48.gif3846p44b.gif

War Driven/Opressors:

"Treaty Of Survival": Black Falcons + New Dragon Knights

3846p46.gif3846px9.gif3846pb28.jpg

"Alternative Approach": Fright Knights + Bulls + Shadow Knights

3846px7.gif770px4.gif770pb05.jpg

"Men Of Honour": Black Knights + Old Dragon Knights

3846px10.gif770p4c.gif770p4b.gif

Non-human: Undead + Trolls/Orcs

bb291pb01.gifbb310pb01.jpg

The Red & Blue alliances were formed to defend against the many hostile armies, particularly the Black Knights & Old Dragon Knights. (The most numerous in force.) The outlaws operate independently from each other, but not at odds. "Men Of Honour" is a self-proclaimed title, (no one else believes it) - they don't trust the "dark" methods of the "Alternatives" but that is where the honour ends and greed, malice & pride begins: their quest is for power & absolute conquest, and refuse to share with "lesser men". The Bulls being small in number have joined with the slightly more numerous Fright Knights, and in turn they have identified with the similar-minded Shadow Knights - both very open to supernatural methods. The "Treaty Of Survival" was signed out of fear/necessity - alone they were both under threat of conquest by "Men Of Honour" or "Alternatives", imprisonment by any of the 6 red/blue kingdoms, and raiding by outlaws, Trolls/Orcs or Undead. The last forged alliance was between the Undead & Trolls/Orcs for similar reasons: their survival depended on it, and no one else wanted to ally with them.

Most factions have a specific leader, most of whom are named. The red/blue alliances are purely about defence, not offence. If one red kingdom is under attack, the others come to their aid immediately. At times one or more blue kingdom may also, & vice versa, depending on the situation, but are in no way bound to it. Red & Blue are never against each other, but don't always cooperate. (Think Gondor & Rohan.) I haven't worked out all the details & backstories yet. Each faction (other than Bulls) has at least one castle/fortress. I will take photos at some stage and post them in the armies topic.

Well, I have three self-made factions in my Fantasy Realm: The Great Protectorate (made up of humans), the Confederation of Ustokal Princes (the ustokal being a troll-type species), and Scallow's army (Scallow is a necromancer; his army is undead). All three have their own characters, siege engines, fortresses, and dragons.

Posted

Currently, only 2 main factions, but that is subject to change.

The knights of Oland (Dragon Kingdom) and the knights of Gents (Lion Kingdom). However, I do have 2 or 3 Crownies lying about, they could become their own faction if I ever get more of them. And of course when new factions are released, those will be pulled into the world alongside the current ones. :)

I have four factions.

Knights of the Crown :

Fantasy Era Crownies alleated with Kingdoms Lion Knights. They're commanded by the Crownies' King, father of Jayko and Santis (KKII) and Lord Vladek.

Dark Dragons :

Kingdoms Dragon Knights alleated with some thiefs. Commanded by Cedric the Bull.

Men of the woods :

CM S1 forestman, CM S3 Elf and some custom figs. Commanded by Rascus.

Paesants :

All custom figs.

They will show up in my next moc so... Stay tuned.

This is a cool way to do it. It also points out one does not need to use the Lego factions to "draw the lines". Makes me want to rethink how I break mine up again. :classic:

Lion Knights -- The largest and ruling faction. I haven't decided if they are good or not.

Dragon Knights -- Growing, but considerably smaller than the Lions. I haven't decided if they're evil of not.

Crownies -- A very small remnant of a once great kingdom. Their alliance, Lions or Dragons, hasn't be determined.

Orcs/Trolls -- A medium-sized group of troublemakers, but they're the twisted backbone of the servants of darkness.

Dwarves -- Quite reclusive these days, but who knows what treasures their mines hold.

Elves -- Rarely seen, but the ancient Elves are more powerful than the humans or evildoers imagine.

Vikings -- My beloved Northmen -- Few in number, but the fiercest warriors in the realm.

Peasants -- Mostly farmers and blacksmiths. Happy to avoid the warring, but brave enough to protect their families and homes when need be.

Wizards -- Five wizards (red, blue, green, black, gray) who manipulate/control/assist various factions from time to time. Some are good; some are evil.

Skeletons -- An undead army that is resurrected when the dark wizards see fit. Otherwise, they lie scattered and disjointed all across, and under, the land.

Forestmen -- A very small band of adventurers. Mostly good natured, but they aren't above stealing and answer only to whomever they choose to follow.

I thought I posted this but apparently I did not.

For small factions you can have them all be part of the same kingdom but as rival warlords fighting each other for supremacy over the land. Like real life armies did until everyone became united as nations. And plus there are mercenary groups. They probably liked having their own symbols and gear. I am sure in medieval ages all the vassals and lords had their own equipment and flags. Although I wonder how the smaller armies competed with the huge ones.

I'm liking how people have these little back stories for their own kingdoms

makes me want to dive into some serious castle (army) building

Personally I have a large (50+) Crown Knights collection, a sizeable (30?) ninja/samurai contingent, a surprisingly large Orient Express Dragon guys and handfuls of some of the older knights.

I don't have any of the newest guys yet, but I wanna start building some of the Dragon Knights...

My Husbands armies are vast too the point he plans on making a micro, micro scale map of his world out of LEGO it will be 3-d and each stud will be equivilent to 1 32 x 32 baseplate so when he does a minifig scale battle he'll use a larger scale scene, the world map is for him to record faction territories and terrains and such.

by the way the map will be about 4 (32 x 32) x 8 (32 x 32) baseplates in size. so in minifgi scale it would be like 128 32x32 baseplates by 256 32x32 baseplates in size, he keeps saying thank god for micro scale.

When he first brought this up I thought it was an interesting idea. I think he should do it but he needs to also remember to post pictures of it while it is being created and again once it is done.

Wow that is awesome! I definitely want to see it. But I want to see his vast armies!

It's been very interesting to hear about other people's Kingdoms, so I thought I would share mine. :classic:

Firstly, I don't have very many pre-2007 castle minifigures/sets. In my opinion, not enough to have any separate factions.

So any minifigures I happen to have from before the 'Fantasy Era' theme, are all veterans of past wars.

Anyway, a brief back-story of my Kingdom is:

Crown Knights: By far my largest army, they control the western kingdom. They are mainly defensive, and have many villages and markets across the land.

The Undead: Lead by the Evil wizard, their 'kingdom' is the Barren Wasteland (east of the western kingdom). They are constantly battling with the Crown Kingdom.

Dwarven Kingdom: Living in (and under) the mountains south of the Western kingdom, they mainly stay out of battles, and are more interested in mining. They are aligned with the Western Kingdom.

Trolls: Aligned with the Evil Wizard, they aren't the smartest, only interested in treasure.

Vikings: Living on the island's north of the Western Kingdom. They do not pillage or attack anyone aligned with the western kingdom, as the King has always been friendly to them. The Evil Wizard does not have the same privilege.

Lion Knights: The whole Kingdoms Theme takes place far east of everything else. The Lions' know of the Western kingdoms existence and vice-versa, but do not get involved with each other often.

Dragon Knights: At war with the Lion knights, and lead by there own Evil Wizard. They use mainly offensive/kidnapping tactics.

Probably went into too much detail there, I just like giving them slight back-stories.

I also based quite a lot of it around this map.
