De Sandman Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 The Black Revenge has sunk....there's a new ship in dock, it wil be bigger and more beuatiful than the Black Revenge....it's still nameless (suggestions?).... The blue bricks you see will not be visible when it's finished, i'm limited to my bricks (i don't want to buy bricks yet), so i have to use diffrent colours when i'm sure the bricks are not visible. Captain Blackmoor Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 That is an amazing ship already! Nice progress so far. The only thing that bothers me at this point is the brown and dark brown hull pieces mixed together. I would stick to one colour in all cases! It would surely looks odd on the final model. Perhaps these hullpieces are hard to find, but you really need them. Good luck, and keep it up! Quote

Thanks...i think you're right about the dark brown and brown hullpieces, i didn't looked at this this way because i wanted to make the ship even bigger (1 hullpiece) and i don't have enough brown hullpieces, but i made it one hullpiece smaller because it was out of proportions i will change the hullpieces tonight thanks Quote

kurigan Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Curious, what sort of vessel are you going for? Depending on that, I might want to suggest that either the bow rises to high or the stern not enough. I feel your pain in lacking bricks, but I already like your color scheme. Maybe having some blue in there on purpose wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Quote

The bow has to be that high...you'll see . Quote
De Sandman Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 It has been a while, i've been busy, here are new pictures, it is a pain staking progress of building and taring apart en rebuild... Quote
Bart Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) Wow looking good, I think this colour scheme works, It's looking massive, in a positive way. And I do love the rib's on the outside of the quarters and the balcony (it is going to be a balcony right?) in the stern. Are you going to put in moc cannons? because the gun ports look big to me? I'm only not a fan of those double arc doors on the bow. I suggest you extend the lower gun deck forwards in to a half circle, that would look great. But by all means keep going! Bart PS I LOVE the use of the minifigs as statues Edited August 15, 2011 by Bart Quote

Bart PS I LOVE the use of the minifigs as statues Thanks for your comment, yes there is going to be a balcony and no i'm not going to put in guns because the inside will be empty because i don't have enough bricks to build a good inside, i'm only making the the parts that will be in sight, maybe there will be guns on the decks, the doors in the bow i won't change, i'm still struggling with the bow...(it's hard to build) Quote
Sebeus I Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 She looks "royal" , maybe that helps finding a name ? very nice so far either way. This is a Carrack (kraak) you're building right ? those have a high forecastle... or is it rather a galleon ? (or something else ) Quote

(or something else ) It's going to be a galleon, and the name is going to be Archangel or Gabriel because the figurehead is going to be the angel Gabriel but the wings are going to be very hard to construct, i'm thinking to make the wings a part of the headrails. Derfel Cadarn Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 This is looks interesting! I like how the shape is starting to take form, the stern is looking good and has a nice shape. I know from making my galleon that a lot of changing and rebuilding is needed when trying to get a good shape. Galleons arnt easy and it's good to see someone else making one. Is there any particular ship you're basing it on and are you going for 4 masts or 3? Keep up the good work, this looks like its going to be a great moc! Quote

De Sandman Posted September 5, 2011 Author Posted September 5, 2011 Just a few steps further....added headrails, modified the bow, added the planks for the rigging, modified the forecastle and so on... Please your comments....thx Quote
Skipper Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Very nice, I like the stern ornaments especially with the minifigs as statues. Looking forward to the next update. Did gallons really have headrails? Quote
Bjornu Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Maybe I got a nice name for your pirate vessel? Girander Aelos I just amde those up, I hope you like one ? greetz Bjornu Quote
Horry Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 (edited) Very nice, I like the stern ornaments especially with the minifigs as statues. Looking forward to the next update. Did gallons really have headrails? Yes and no - The beakhead as we know it from most sailing ships of the 18th and 19th century was actually developed on the galleons in order to improve the handling of the spritsails. It also added some balance for the newly developed square tucks (that were unique for a ship of that size). So if you take a look at the early gallons you'll see mostly beakheads without or with very simple headrails. The more the gallon became a prestige ship during the later 17th century, the more ornaments were added, marking the establishment of the traditional headrails. EDIT: fixed some terrible typos. De Sandman Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 Maybe I got a nice name for your pirate vessel? Girander Aelos I just amde those up, I hope you like one ? greetz Bjornu I like Aeolus, this what i found on wiki; Aeolus [1] (Greek: Αἴολος Aiolos [ǎi̯olos], Modern Greek: [ˈe.olos] ( listen)) was the ruler of the winds in Greek mythology. Thx, i will think about it.... About the headrails; i have the 7 provincien from admiral de Ruyter as example (just exmaple i don't build it); Quote
De Sandman Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 A small update (and better pictures); Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Looks promising. I like the colours and the overall design so far. But the bow and headrails bother me a little. On the 7 provinciën model you can see the headrails curve downwards and then upwards again, and only very slightly. Your headrails only curve downwards and quite steep. So I guess your forecastle is too high, or your figurehead/scheg is too low. You may also want to change the colour of the headrails into black, yellow or brown so they fit more with the rest. Good luck! As I said, the rest is promising Quote

Good luck! As I said, the rest is promising I know what you mean, i have a little trouble with the bow / figurehead, and i wasn't quite pleased with it, i have already changed the bow 6 or 7 times (and still not pleased).....the colours of the headrails are on purpose, they should look like wings from my figurehead. Mayby you have a suggestion for the bow to change it? Edited September 7, 2011 by De Sandman Quote
Bjornu Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I like the use of Figureheads on the back and the front, But I would remove the ones on the side. It looks more chaotic with these figureheads on the sides, and they also serve no more purpose than decoration.. Well, I hope you understand my point Greetz Bjornu Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Mayby you have a suggestion for the bow to change it? Well the best thing I can think of, is to make the forecastle less high. As you can see even the 7 Provinciën doesn't have a deck with cannons just on the forecastle. It only has 2 entire gundecks and a few loose cannons on top of the forecastle if you get what I mean. A lower forecastle could look a bit like this: And perhaps you could make it even lower, but that's up to your taste. Quote
