Hopefully I'm not posting this in the wrong place...

Target is starting to clear out their Lego sets but it varies store to store. The other day I drove to three Target locations and was surprised at the discounts. Many sets were clearanced at 50% off! The themes involved were City, Castle, Harry Potter, Cars 2, Creator and Prince of Persia. Like I said it varies at each location but the discounts at some are huge.

I got a few sets at 50%. A friend of mine got the $10 Prince of Persia set for 54 cents! *oh2*

Also, they have some great deals online if you search for LEGO and then show only clearance. Some of the board games are 75% off.

Most stores should be at 75% off by the 28th of July this is one of two clearance events they do a year. Of course by then the stock is dwindled but still if you live within the peramiter of a few stores you can find some even better deals, I decided it was worth getting a few of the HP sets for my boys at 30% off since I went to 4 stores with nothing and finally found some.

Hi

You seem to be having lots of 30-75 % off sales at Target/KMart/etc in the USA at the moment. For my UCS Hogwarts Project I'm looking for as many House Elves and Hogwarts Uniforms as possible. If you find Freeing Dobby or Quidditch Match reduced to under 7 USD or 15 USD respectively, please could you pick some up for me? I need 2 Quidditch Matches and unlimited quantities of Freeing Dobby sets. I would like them removed from boxes to make shipping more affordable. (If you see 4842 reduced to 90 USD or less I would also be interested in one.)

I wish we had these great sales in the UK...

Many Thanks

Matthew

People keep talking about this, but when I go to my local Target all I have found was a couple sets marked down like 10% and nothing worth buys either. :hmpf_bad:

Discounts vary by location. If you live in an affluent neighborhood there won't be much in terms of discount.

Is Target not selling Lego anymore at all? I saw some discounts (no higher than 10% off) last time I went, but what I noticed is that the Lego selection at Target is getting smaller and smaller each time. Now all they have left is a few small sets from each theme, nothing more than 50 USD.

If they're clearing out all Lego products, then TRU and the Lego stores will be the only places to get Lego sets without using the Internet in the USA. Is that assumption correct?

I really don't think so. There have been times in the past when Target's LEGO section has seemed small, but every one I've been in for a while seems to have a nice large section, spanning one and a half sides of an isle, not to mention a separate display for the LEGO Games. It might just be making space for new merchandise, or a case of a specific store.

I've seen various markdowns too, but the best was in a Chicago Target that had the Series 4 Minifigures for just 74 cents apiece. I was quite surprised to see this when Series 5 hasn't even come out here yet, but I happily grabbed eight different ones of them.

To be fair, WalMart does have a decent selection (at least in my area). I hit 2 targets today. One was all but wiped out, only Ninjago, and scraps of the other themes left, and virtually no clearance sets left. The other still had quite a few clearance, and a good selection left. Seems to be a store to store situation, I hardly think Target will abandoned Lego all together.

The discounts were all over the place though. I found a Tie Defender for 70% off, and Quidditch match for 30% off, but several sets were only 10% off.

As I said it does vary by store. One Target had almost half of their inventory on sale at really good prices and then the next store only had a few sets on sale but not as low as the previous store. Depending on what area you live in you may have 10 Targets within 50 miles or maybe 1 within the same distance. The best thing to do is check them all out weekly. I almost thought about getting a part time job at one just to take advantage of future sales plus employees usually receive an additional discount. Just a thought for now.

Contrary for the Targets I have visited the LEGO section is getting bigger and better with TRU type displays too. Must vary by location. :shrug_confused:

My local Target(s) used to take up a full, but has since diminished to half of a shelf. Maybe it's just a clear-out of the older sets before they stock the new ones, but I've never seen their inventory so small. Like you said though, it may just be this one Target.

Lucky you, you'd be fortunate to find more than a few Duplo sets at the Wal-marts in my area.

Again, this used to be Target where I live. They had almost as much as TRU (not to mention much lower prices), but this year just doesn't seem to be a good one for Lego at the local Targets.

Just for curiosity sake, what area of the US are you in? I'm in a Evansville, IN, small town middle America. roughly 100K city. We have 2 Super Targets here, and like I said previous, they have totally different stocking methods. I ask because when I lived roughly 90 miles west of here, in southern IL, the stock would drop off to nothing several times a year, and really only stock up before the Christmas season. I wonder if smaller markets don't get priority stocking, just the leftovers.

I'm curious as to whether you are in a larger area's suburb, that may have a lesser stock, than some in the major city of the suburb, or if you are in a small town with only the one Target for several miles. I'd think that the latter would be a disadvantage to them, if they are one of the only games in town, at least thats what I always thought when I lived in the smaller town.

Pertaining to the Wal-Marts, we have 3 Super Wal-Marts, and although the stock does wain at various times thru the year, they typically have similar stock, and roughly one side of an aisle 75%-100% full, with some spill over and the clone blocks on the other side of the aisle. Guess we may be the exception here.

I live in a suburb of Milwaukee, WI. There are three or four regular Targets close by, and they've always had good selections before. I don't remember the Lego stock ever being this small, but like you said, maybe they're preparing for autumn, for new sets and holidays. I wouldn't consider where I live a small town (the area has 1.7 million people), but I guess it just differs by location.

It seems that we're getting a bit off-topic with this, though.

Don't forget to check Goodwill stores as well. It seems my local Target store gave up selling leftover PoP sets and dumped them to Goodwill store. I found 10x 7570 and 7x 7569 for combined total of only $93. All had Target clearance price tag on.

The East Sacramento area stores have, what I would judge, as a moderate sale. Some smaller stets at 30% off and an Atlantis (8061) at 50% off. Though the smaller sets at the sale price still were around $0.10/pc. I kind of felt like I was shopping at Safeway where they jack the "retail" price up and then put a "sale" price that is actually the MSRP. What ever, I managed to pick up a few sets at reasonable amounts.

Clearance sales vary so much by location that having threads about them is almost useless.

Clearance happens when they get notified that a set is no longer going to be shipped to them, and they have newer inventory that needs the shelf space, if stuff stays on the shelf too long, the price normally just keeps coming down until someone buys it, so the fact that someone got a set for under a buck, is really not a reason for all of us to rush to Target.

I picked up 2 copies of the game Robo Champ for $2.64 when it was normally $10.59. I saw the passanger plane for half off and there were a lot of copies, but it wasn't anything I wanted. They also had a lot of an Atlantis set half-off, but not anything I wanted.

I've also seen LEGO sold in Ross stores. It's not very often, but I'm going to begin looking, just in case.
