Well my kid loves building lego and so do i :)

I did get the tractor 8049 and build with him and he loves playing with it.

Next i'm looking to get the 8052, looks like fun to play with.

Any other suggestions for fun sets? Dont care if they fun or not to build (they all are i think ;)). But what once is durable and fun to play with? (A few functions like the tractor set has is great)

Thanks!

The 8049 Tractor with Log Loader set is good for kids to play with, as you noted. You can read the Brickset reviews of the 8052 Container Truck here. I own both sets, and recommend them.

You can look at the current Lego Technic product lineup, then type the set number into Brickset search box to see the reviews. If you can wait a few weeks, the 2H2011 sets will be widely available.

Hi,

Nice to hear about people recruiting to the Lego hobby (and it's a good excuse to play a little)... =D

I would recomend the 8069 Backhoe loader. It's a good set with lots of playability, and not expensive at all. I would also as you to keep an eye on the new flatbed truck comming this fall.

Hope you find something your kid (and, of course, you...) enjoy!

I'm actually not fond of the 8052. The model is nice and looks pretty good, and the color is nice too, but it has only two functions, and in my opinion switching between the two doesn't work very well. There is a lot of friction so you can't "feel" the end point of the switching mechanism. There is no direct feedback so to speak.

If you want a play model, I'd say, get 8069. It has no motor, but it has no less than seven functions for about the same price as 8052:

  • steering
  • front arm raise
  • front arm scoop
  • rear arm raise
  • rear arm scoop
  • rear arm rotate
  • outriggers

Not only the play is nice, but the build itself I found quite interesting.

I personally dislike 8049, the tractor + log loader. It's really small and flimsy and the pneumatic arm looks as if it was designed by a kid. You only get a *single* log to play with, and the grabber itself does not have a cylinder so you always need to reach for it to pick up something.

For playing with, nothing beats the 8043.. ( the motorized excavator)

I will guarantee they will spend hours with it :sweet:

Building it is too much of a challenge for kids though, I think..

Good choice on 8069, it probably is one of the best Technic sets in its price range of the last few years. I have 8052 as well, and its mechanism is quite unique and interesting, plus you get a motor.

If you're looking to get 8258 and it's still available in stores where you are then I'd pick it up as soon as possible, because when the 2H 2011 sets hit it'll probably go.
