Today, the absolute unthinkable happened. A Lego figure's hand broke off! The peg part is still stuck inside the arm, and nothing's out of the arm to grip. How would I pull the peg out to replace the hand?

I've had this happen to me before. I've never been able to find a solution to the problem that wouldn't end up just destroying the arm.

You could use a very small screw to screw into the post and then pull it out. This might work but you are unlikely to have a screw small enough (like for building dollhouse furniture).

You can get a small paperclip, pull the arm off the torsos, stick the paperclip into the hole in the arm where the arm connects the torso. gently work the paper clip around the elbow bend and then use it to push the hand stem out.

However, i recommend just buying a new arm. Buy a few cheap torso assemblies or arm pairs on bricklink and then you'll have backup for next time.
