Ro87n Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Hello fellow eurobrick members. I was wondering why I could not find a topic about this? And has anyone else got a MLN? Mine is: Ro87n on MyLEGO Network. I tried the search funtion and could not find any topic about this. And I'm not sure where this should be. Thanks in advance for letting me know if this is in the wrong place and if anyone else uses this too. ~ Ro87n Quote
def Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I did a quick Google search and the top result states "especially for children." That's enough to keep me out of it. I use an AFOL site for a reason. Quote
The Legonater Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I have to agree with def. What little I've seen of it is a terrible system that hasn't been taken proper care of by LEGO. Looks more like a cheap fan-game than one put out by the makers. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I have to agree with def. What little I've seen of it is a terrible system that hasn't been taken proper care of by LEGO. Looks more like a cheap fan-game than one put out by the makers. I agree with you. And I've actually tried it. I tried to use to to promote MOCs, but to do that you need to have a showcase something-or-other, to get that you need this color block, and to get that color block you need this machine, and to get this machine, you need this resource, and to get that resource you need this animal, and to get that animal you need this building, and to get that building you need this many pies, and to get that many pies you need this many apples, and to get that many apples you need this many trees with that many clicks... Or something like that. Honestly, from any serious LEGO fan's point of view, it can be considered pointless. It has less to do with LEGO and more to do with trying to interact with other people online who probably aren't serious LEGO fans either. And really, if you're going to introduce a gazillion different collectibles to the site, at least make them LEGOs. Quote
-R8- Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 It is designed for kids to 'work together' to advance through an elaborate ranking system, but the in-game communication is so limited and primitive that it is impossible to do so unless communication is carried out on an external site. Now, MLN is more or less a failed concept, after having being neglected for so long. And really, if you're going to introduce a gazillion different collectibles to the site, at least make them LEGOs. I heartily concur with you. To be candid, the game had nothing to do with LEGO aside from the 'networkers' that were minifigs, and the various bricks that you could collect. One of the collectables was a 'red flower,' and believe it or not, they didn't even use an image of an actual LEGO flower piece - they just used a typical image of a flower that you'd find in Microsoft Office clipart. MLN is just something that may look entertaining at first, but will easily become boring and tedious in no time. Quote
brickmack Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) Several years ago I tried it and SOMEHOW (Don't ask me how, my guess is alien mind control is the best explanation) I managed to enjoy it for a few months (Got to rank 9). The in-game communication was HORRIBLE, to the point that I went to find another site to talk to people on. (This quest to find a way to talk to people was how I found the LEGO fan community, so I guess something good came from it). The items took forever to "Grow" was the term they used on MLN I think, using modules you put on your page, and many of the items weren't tradable. I probably spent 3 or 4 hours daily trying to move around modules and buy and sell items and crap to finish it (At this point I was starting to hate it already but I get kinda crazy if I don't finish something, so I figured I'd finish it as fast as possible). About 1/2 way through rank 9 the thing got so unbearable that I considered throwing away my computer, so I deleted my account, as well as my accounts on all the MLN related sites I was on (Except for the wiki that I was on, since I still use some other wikis from that company, notably Brickipedia). And using anything on the LEGO site for posting MOCs is absolutely pointless, what with the moderating and having the search function being almost useless, and the fact that you can't really even post a description, and only 1 picture. Ro87n, I notice you're only rank 2 still, it's not too late to get out! You haven't ruined your life yet! </rant> Edited July 14, 2011 by brickmack Quote
