If the shock-absorbers would have been be used for a return-to-centre system, they should have been rotated 90 degrees lengthwise. I thinkk they are used for the suspension system.

Good point! Indeed the lack of return to center is bad. The suspension took up the entire space in front did not put the medium or motor direction.
