I hope this is the appropriate place to discuss this. If not, I'm sure the mods will move it and I'll endeavor to choose more appropriately in the future.

Like many people, I've had an online username that I've used for years. And it's nothing remotely LEGO related. Now, as my husband and I have been AFOLs for a little over a year, we want to start using a cool and unique alias LEGO-oriented alias. It would be used for places like flickr and the like, where we post jointly. But we're drawing a blank.

I was wondering if anyone would care to share their LEGO-oriented alias/user name and how they decided upon it. It might give us some inspiration.

If anyone would like to suggest something for us, that'd be cool too. We're into castle/medieval/fantasy building. My husband likes to build big MOCs and then I do the detailing (accents & minifigures). Not sure what else to say, as we're relatively new AFOLs. We haven't really found a niche yet. I've started working on mosaics and I'd like to get more into vignettes as I love to tell stories. My husband continues to do free-builds, for the most part, letting his creativity flow. But we're looking for an alias that represents us both, not our individual talents.

Thanks for the help!

Brickdoctor- Because I started out as a failed minifig customizer :cry_sad: , who 'doctors bricks'; and because it began as a screen name for my Bricklink account, which was originally a joint account for myself and my dad, who's a doctor. I thought it was clever at the time, but by the time it dawned on me that the name in no way fits my personality, I'd already been using it for over a year on other sites.

My "Lego alias" is ChocoBricks Customs, or ChocoBricks for short.

I use it to represent my custom Lego figs elsewhere. ChocoBricks is a portmanteau of Chocobo and Lego Bricks. Chocobos are a staple in the Final Fantasy series, and since I am a huge fan of Final Fantasy, that is what I decided to use.

Brick, Bricks, Briks, Brix, and Stud are the simple words to work around if you are keen on keeping it Lego related, and you can tack on other words like "Creations", "Customs", "Designs", etc.

Like for example: ShadoBrix Creations or SilvaStud Designs. But those are just working off your screenname, since I don't know your husband's.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

I took a quick look through that thread, but most of the screen names are not LEGO-related. It's 39 pages long so it'll take me a while to go through it all. But I'll give it a go as you never know where inspiration will come from.

Video games is an idea. We play a lot of RPGs, though I'm not sure if we have a combined favorite. I know what I'd choose, Lunar as that's my favorite RPG ever. But I don't think my husband would agree.

He switches around on screen names, but here he's using blackpyre. I forgot where he got that from.

Thanks for the suggestions on various main words to use. That will help a lot.

Interesting subject.

I might as well get my obligatory story out of the way, my Alias is a poorly disguised variant of my actual name: Simon (rotate the C in SI-mocs 90 degrees). Though I also go by the name 'brickgoalie' which is a less subbtle Lego reference.

Though there is nothing to be said that you have to have a LEGO-related alias. Especially in a LEGO-centric board. Sometimes I feel it gets a bit redundant – like Lego tshirts – they’re cool, but slightly less cool if everyone is wearing them ;)

Personally, I like aliases that have a clever pun to it, so maybe as Omi suggested, work brick or stud or something into your name.

Or is there a particular piece that you are particularly fond of, or one you use a lot in your creations? Or perhaps favorite a colour? Maybe make one of these as a basis of your name?

Or since you’re a couple, perhaps choose an appropriate LEGO piece? Like a hinge or a turntable – something that’s two pieces working together as one - like how you build your creations together.

It's true that we don't have to have anything LEGO related, but for places where we post jointly about LEGO, I thought it'd be cool to have something that represents us both.

And that's a great idea to choose a piece that represents us as a couple. In fact, before I read your post, I talked to my husband more about the name idea and he thought of "Both Sides of the Brick" to represent how we each have our own ideas for building with LEGO that may be different, but that we come together to build one creation.

What do you all think of "Both Sides of the Brick"?

My other idea was to go a castle-themed route with Mr & Mrs Bricksalot, but that's a bit corny.

I personally think your alias should be flexible, not directly LEGO related. I've been using Big Cam for almost a decade, car forums, photography forums, and of course LEGO forums.

The username thread really trends to agree with me as well. To each their own, but having something more generic actually seems a little more professional to me. (I know that doesn't make perfect sense)

I choose something separate for my online Lego persona, it's just the way I do things(and have done things). I find the idea that once stuff gets published to the net/web/tubes/matrix etc it can be impossible to correct-erase-change mildly disturbing. I don't splash pictures of myself around online, there are very few that I know of actually but that's the way I have wanted it, I don't need a FB account, a Twitter feed, a blog or a Myspace to trumpt whatever random thought I had on a particular day. I am fine sharing my thoughts via a message board or email as relevant. but I'm a quiet person, always have been. I have nothing against those that do enjoy the previously listed 'social media' sites and services, they are just not for me.

@the OP, Find a name that you feel suits you, if it ties into your non LEGO pursuits or not give it some thought and then choose a name.

Thank you both for the feedback. I appreciate the perspectives.

Since we want a name that represents both of us and it will be used specifically for LEGO posting, I think we'll go with Both Sides of the Brick. Because as you said, it's most important that we like and we do.

Thanks again!
