Hello Again All

Yes I know it has only been a couple of days since my last post and that the previous work was quite a read, well with these last two days off work (and very little else to do) I decided to dive in and look at all the sets from the orignal castle wave.

so click on the link, give it a read and then give me some feedback, maybe you will enjoy it (who knows ).

The Classic Sets

P.s if you haven't read my orignal castle overview you can read it here

A look at all the Castle sets

I hope you enjoy it

Thanks

these sets are getting old so they are hardly seen anymore.

Its a shame because I love the castle and jousting sets alot

So I thought they deserved a proper review.

ah.... wish i could go back in time now and buy any of these in the local toy shop! :sing:

i didn't know about the existence of that unique Crusaders shield during this timeframe though... hm... i guess that's an expensive one.

anyway, i had most of these sets when i started my Lego experience, so many years ago. I loooooved yellow castle. Sure, "yellow" was kinda strange for a castle, but i guess it was more attractive and cheaper to produce than grey.

My best memories come from building castle sets with these bricks. Just look at the pictures of the box: soooo many different types of castles, soooo many stories to invent. It's hard to describe the feeling of excitement you had as a child, 30 years later, the fact that I still remember the day and the moment that i got this set, says a lot about the impact this set had on me as a child. What I also still remember is that I spilled coffee on the instruction book, when i was building the castle for the very first time. :look: mommy was not happy about that, even though it was my birthday.

I got the tournement set a few days later from my grandparents. For some reason, this already feels a bit more sophisticated than yellow castle and I never really felt a link between the two sets...

Great article - thanks for putting it together! It's always fascinating to see the birth of something that ends up so much bigger than initially imagined. I had thought my time as a kid collecting Castle sets was later with the Forestmen. But I guess someone got me started earlier, as my own kids still play with my old "halved-shield" minifigs from set 677 (Knight's Procession), which I clearly recall building now that I see the pic. I didn't realize those figs were from such an old set. It's pretty wild to think that 1) someone had the foresight to buy me a cool Lego castle set when I was 4, and 2) that my own almost 4 year old kids are still playing with those figs 30 years later.

Thank for the feedback everyone,

I am sorry I have not posted the next edition for soo long, I am currently working on all the crusader sets (there's a lot of them)

It should be up in a week or two and expect it to be just as good (hopefully).

Snefroe, I also love the yellow castle, indeed i spent ages trying to make the other castle on the box (sadly i struggled alot and it never looked as good, but still i enjoyed trying :sweet:, yeah the Knights Tournament is a lot more sophisticated, with the hair, mugs and barding on the horses and printing on the torsos, it was all good back in the day)

tppytel, thats really cool (circle of life and such) indeed my little brother (who is now 10) has been playing with all my old sets for years, and like you I am amazed that the toys i had are still interesting to the youth of today  .

Thanks all
