I've done this in the past with Sportcards but am thinking about trying it with LEGO not sure if it's been done. Here's the premise.

I will fill a flat rate mailing box with Lego Parts, Pieces, Figures, Accessories, Etc.

Up to 10 people (I would like to keep it within the US for the first try) would then join the group.

I would print out a list with everyone's name's and addresses and put them in the box as well. (I will also include address labels to post over the old label so the box can be reused.

I would then ship the box to person #1 using Delivery Confirmation, posting that confirmation number in the trade thread.

Person #1 will go thru the box taking what they would like and replacing it with things they may not have a use for but someone else would.

Person #1 will note in the thread what they took and what they put in the box.

Person #1 would then ship the box to Person #2 on the list using Delivery Confirmation and posting the number in the thread.

Person #2 would repeat the process.

The final person would return the box to me and the process could start over.

Just wondering if this sounds like something anyone would be interested in.

While this sounds good, I would suggest some clear ground rules.

How long between the time you get the box and you send the box?

What is OK to put into the box?

If there is a theme, how much must you stick to it (SciFi, Castle, etc)?

How is "like for like" established?

How is the order people go in agreed upon? East to west etc?

Just a few ideas. I think the more clear it is, the better chance you have of having a great trade box.

So... The idea for shipping:

I'm just going to take random members here

Cloneopatra ships the box to Legocityman for $5. Legocityman then ships the box to me, who ships the box to Sigfried for $5. Correct? The recipient/sender pay shipping?

And if I take 5 parts out, do I have to put an equal or greater amount back in?

Reminds me of the event held by Classic Pirates, not sure if that is still going on or not.

If we can establish a clear set of rules, I'm interested in joining! We'd need a way to make sure the value of what goes into the box is fairly equivalent to what comes out (BL prices?).

If we do this US only for now, we should use the flat rate boxes. They all ship for the same price. $4.95. And we should have the person who's shipping the box at the moment PM the next person for their address instead of doing them all at once.

Not trying to be picky, just to inform. The smallest flat rate priority box went up in April. It is now $5.20. :classic:

I'm interested in participating when this happens. Definately will need the set rules like Daniel's Dad posted about.

Probably don't want to post the conf number in the thread though since it has to/from address and city info - not sure if that is OK or not here.

With Sports cards here is how I've done it. In the box there would be an envelope with each recipients name on it. I usually write a note to them and also include the Priority Address Label for them to put on the box with the next recipients address already printed. This reduces the hassle of waiting for the next person to PM them. Each recipient would be expected to ship the box within 7 days of receipt. Exceptions are handled on an as needed basis as long as the recipient keeps in touch with the rest of the group via the group thread.

As far as Values go, I would hope that anyone who wishes to be involved will be honest with themselves. I will not post a list of the beginning contents of the box. The box will be filled with elements of various themes. Half the fun is getting the box and going thru it's contents. The idea of the box is not for anyone to try to make money on it. The idea is to pass on elements that may not fit your style of building to someone else who may need them. I like to think of it as being similar to the "Pay It Forward" thread here except that you get the fun of going thru a whole BOX instead of just a post.

I've actually started building the box and it's actually really fun going thru tons of tubs pulling out stuff I haven't used in ages and think people will really enjoy. I've also got a neat idea going on in my head as a box activity. (I like to include a box activity as well.)

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

I will be moving back to the states sometime soon and I would like to get in on this I have a few pieces I want to get rid off.

It's called a Jambalaya.

You certainly want to get the rules established clearly ASAP. Classic-Castle and Forbidden Cove have run these and it can be fun.

I would love to join in! Maybe a new thread with the rules, and order of people(and list thereof) would make things a bit easier. (If you know what I mean)

This sounds like fun!

I would also be willing to organize a Trading Box for the UK/Europe in conjunction. If there are enough UK/Europe members interested, than I'll set up another thread.
