SirSven7 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Hello All In the Pirate forum I have been slowly posting a blog looking at each sets ever created for the pirate theme. Now I have decided to do the same for Castle and no compreshensive review is complete without an overview of the entire collection from start to finish. On the link below we have my article, for those interested in looking at the entire run of the castle theme please click. Its a bit of a read but I hope you Like it. My link Comments would be great Thank You Quote
Wardancer Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 A detailled overview and a history of all castle sets since 1978 has been done in German: http://www.rittersets.de/ Click "Suche nach Jahr:" to show the years and "Suche in numerischer Folge:" to show by numbers. You can also sort by faction. I hope this helps with your project. Quote
Niku Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I really thank you for this article. Keep them coming. Quote
SirSven7 Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 Cheers I will use the German one as a reference. Next up will be the classic sets. Quote
KristofBD Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Very nice and informative. I agree with your main argument: we've been through dark times, but from 2007 onwards the Castle line has really delivered some true gems. Quote
JasonV Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Awesome! I enjoyed your pirate overview as well. Any plans for looking at some of the other themes? Quote
SirSven7 Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 Any plans for looking at some of the other themes? Well as I have just started this Castle one and there are almost 300 sets to look at (as opposed to about 90 in the Pirate collection) it is going to take me a while. After though I am going to look at the western collection. Then will look at the adventures theme (Jonny Thunder and the new guy Jake Raines). Then maybe do an overview of all the space sets (though I need to research that one alot as I am missing many of the older sets and quite a few between 2000 and 2008) so I am not as sure my opinion is quite as valid if I haven't physically build them, Maybe I will ask people about that one . I will do ninjago when my collection gets big enought. And I would like to do the Viking Series but sadly I have never seen a single set so sadly I can't (they never released them in england). If after that people are still interested in what I have to say then I will have to collect a whole new theme and start from there. Quote
JasonV Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I'm looking forward to a detailed look at the castle theme. So many interesting sets Quote
de Gothia Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 oh, this surely brings back memories! Great review!!! I´m really glad that i started to build with Lego Castle around 1985-86 and then entered my dark age by the time the Fright Knights came out. After this poor sets they got even worse as you said! I came back into Lego around 2006/2007. It doesen´t look like I missed anything during that period! I didn´t like the Fantasy Era that much (although the MMV was topnotch!)but with the new Kingdoms line it feels like TLG brought back the old style combined with new styles and minifigs! Got to love those Dragon knights!!!! de Gothia Quote
Hoboman Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Wonderful Job. I think you did the History well and you had great shots. Well Done SirSven7 Quote
Rhodes81 Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 i wasn't around for the glory days of old and just barely caught the last stages of fright knights. then there was ninja which was my absolute lego love until the star wars sets started coming out. thanks to the first waves of star wars i didn't pay attention to kingdom 1, which was probably a good thing . then kingdom 2 got me back into castle, i have to admit i actually like it, i guess cause i was 12 at the time the fantasy era was during my dark ages so i managed a grand total of 4 sets i found on clearance, all of them small. and now kingdoms. slowly but sure this will be the series that builds medieval city. Although the Vikings theme was available in England. I'm from the Uk in the south and all the shops had the sets. Quote
SirSven7 Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Really!! vikings was released in England I never knew that, didn't see them around in the shops but I wasn't paying much attention in 2005 to LEGO (mini Dark Age for Myself) I can't find any real information on them (apart frm the stuff on here, Brickset and Brickpieda) I would love someone to review the Fortess set that they had. To me they are a bit of a mystery. Thanks for the info Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I really liked the Viking theme, I saw the ship in TRU and had to by it. I got all the sets except for the fortress which looked interesting. From what I have read, the fortress was a really good set. Like you say, there isn't much info on the theme and it was short lived. Quote
Ogre Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Very nice and informative. I agree with your main argument: we've been through dark times, but from 2007 onwards the Castle line has really delivered some true gems. Knights Kingdom (I & II) almost killed my love of the 'Castle' theme but, thankfully, '(Fantasy) Castle' and 'Kingdoms' have turned that attitude a complete 180! I look forward to reading more. Edited June 29, 2011 by Ogre Quote
