After eight months of planning, buying, and building, the Dragon is finally done!

Measuring about 3 feet by 3 feet (rotors included) the Dragon is a beast. Using over 16,500 pieces and having cost more than I imagined.

As stated before, Mark Kelso and Dave Xandegar have been a huge help with building this.

For those of you who will be at BrickWorld 2011, you'll see it in person; and believe me, the pictures do not do it justice.

Since this has been such a massive investment in time and money, I will be taking a small break but should be building in a month or two.

Hope you all enjoy it!

This was nomintated for "Best Airship" at BW11. It unfortunately did not win.

Holy moly! This is.... huge+detailed+impressive+carefulbuilt= frikkin' awesome!

I liked Avatar mainly for two reasons: it gives a broad audience a perspective on cultural and industrial depletion regardless of their education. And the care for technical sci-FI realism. You captured a piece of Sci-Fi jewellery rather well, Sir, kudos for this!

PS: id does not have, by any chance, any interior? :cry_happy:

I think this will find more of an audience in SciFi, shall move it over there!

Thank you. I don't know how I missed the Sci-Fi forum.

The only interior is the cockpit, it has lights and controls. The rest of the ship has supports on the inside. I may add interior to more of the ship in the future but for know it serves its purpose.

Cool. I saw you putting this together at BW, I thought it looked familiar but didn't remember it from Avatar until I saw it with the rotors. Nice work on angling to rotors also. Would have been really cool if you added that bay area at the back where they were dropping crates of explosives from, and maybe one of the Na'vi.

Wow, what a mightily impressive creation George! The sheer size of this build is simply a sight to behold, and the overall smooth finish and detailing are truly fantastic. Really an excellent work! Though I'm curious to know how much this beast weighs?

Hello!

Being nominated for a prize is already great I think, so don't be sad.

When you look at the gargantuan airship you really can see the time and effort you spent building it. All those curved slopes and arches make this an authentic looking and well designed airship which does justice to the original in the movie. Very well designed! :classic:

Cheers,

Wow, awesome job with this! That's just a mammoth ship. Congratulations on completing such a huge project.

My only criticism is that it seems maybe too large(larger than minifig scale)... the cockpits on the Dragon in the movie were set forward, sticking off of the front of the ship.

Wow, that is massive. How much does that sucker weigh? Could you snap another picture with a minifigure by it for size reference? I want to get a better idea just how big this thing is. Great job too on capturing the details of the ship, definitely recognizable.

It weighs around 50-60 pounds, give or take. I don't have any pictures of it next to a fig and at the moment it's in segments in my basement. I'll see what I can do though.

Wow, you have been busy George, this thing is a behemoth. Its staggering the amount of parts and time that must have gone into this. Sorry I didn't make it over this year to see it in person. Though I plan on making the trip again next year, gotta hang out and eat dawgs with you and Phippy again. :classic:

No worries man, I'm planning on having it at BW next year too so if you go you should see it.
